Im not sure if being injured is part of powerlifting or i am doing something wrong but i seem to go from one injury to another.

I recently aggrevated the tendons in my elbows and this week ive had two small tears in my left pec.

I train with a powerlifting club so we warm up and stretch properly, our training is monitored, our programs are written out and we are well coached.

Some of the other guys are injured from time to time but i seem to be injured almost constantly.

Has anyone got any advice on what i can do about this or am i going to have to accept the fact im always going to be injured while im lifting?

I lift raw in the GBPF (YNEPF).

think we all get injured from time to time. ive had a few and only been strength training for a year.

things i think can cause injury -

training very heavy/maxing out too often.
training the same lift/muscle group when your still not recovered enough from last time.
Bad form.
not taking a rest once in a while.
trying to lift a barell using your thumb Roll-Eyes

I seem to get injured even when im using lighter weights. The latest pec injury was during the work up to my heavy sets.

Ive been advised to look at lifting equipped or trying gh but im not into either to be honest.

I stretch between sets, eat plenty of fruit and veg and take multi vits.

I wouldn't!

Of course pushing yourself in a sport like PL'ing is going to put you at risk of injury, just like any other sport that is taken seriously. Best thing you can do is minimise the risk but it can never be eliminated. Perhaps you are just unlucky - or perhaps there are things, like above, that are contributing to your injury risk without you knowing.

Personally I always feel like lifting in kit puts more strain on my body, so I'm not sure how using kit is expected to prevent injury!

a) If your elbows are sore now then equ powerlifting won't be nice on you.

b) GH? You lift in GBPF a drug tested fed so I can see why you are not into it Happy I hope it's not members of said fed suggesting you taking GH?

Do you drink much water during the day, I read somewhere that being dehydrated can put you at a greater risk of injury.
Also, maybe your body isn't ready for heavy weights and you need time with higher reps first. Just a thought.

Lifting equipped - the argument was that im more likely to be injured lowering the bar to my chest so the equipment might help protect me. I think im more likely to be injured lifting equipped as im going to be lifting more weight.

The GH suggestion was from a bodybuilder friend. That seems to be his answer to most things lol.

I drink plenty of water throughout the day and during my sessions.

I asked my physio about my injuries this morning and he said that while ever im lifting near my max im going to get injuries.

I might have to speak to the coaches at the club and see what they think.

Thanks for the suggestions.

Buy yourself a copy of Magnificent Mobility and follow the warm-up laid out therein before each session. That will help enormously.

I'd go along with this, all the injuries that I pick up in the gym can be put down to poor form and technique.
Unfortunately most of my injuries, whilst affecting what I do in the gym, are not from gym related incidents, just stupidity. Confused
