At home my parents have AOL broadband unfortunately, which means you can't use FTP (obviously a big issue for a web designer!) and there are problems using non AOL emails.

Are there any ISPs anyone would recommend? I have used NTL in Manchester but wasn't impressed by their awful technical support if anything went wrong.

I've been trouble free since switching from NTL to BT.

NTL are now virgin media and are much much better. We always used to have huge problems but now everything is simple and easy.

we use virgin and the network speed is very hit & miss.

Plus their "unlimited" broadband suddenly got a "fair use" policy attached to it, and we have been receiving warning letters. Too bad because the "unlimited" was one of the reasons we took this deal...

I guess it is always a case of the least s**tty deal?

In my experience NTL are fine unless, as you say, you have a problem, in which case prepare to become quite attached to the phone.

All of the ADSL ISP's just resell BT's lines anyway. The Sky broadband deal looks good as well, £26 a month for tv internet and phone.
