Scotbasher - forever Member 59, 2115 posts | It would seem that metal and APT have now paid up the fees. The way in which the IPF have dealt with this may be questionable but I don't think the principle of fee is. On the other side of the coin the IPF are granting a licence for this small number of companies to be sole suppliers to over 110 countries of what we would all agree is overpriced support equipment. The garments are plastered with their logos so are a permanent advert. When you consider the advertising costs involved in other sports this is peanuts, $120 per country.

still a devious weightlifting bastard Member 43, 14374 posts | Post Edited: 10.02.2010 @ 14:48 PM by little_a So lifters are paying through the nose for approved kit so that the kit companies can pay the IPF not insignificant amounts of money?EDIT - I take the point about advertising, but INZER etc aren't Adidas. No one will ever look cool stood in a wine bar with a tight Inzer Tshirt on will they? The only people they are really advertising too are the lifters that arguably need the kit to compete in equipped comps, so it doesnt really need advertising at all.

It probably works out at a few pence per shirt, suit etc. Practically nothing when a modern shirt or suit is well over £100.

You're breaking Joe's heart, man. Anyway. I'm particularly enjoying the PLWatch threads. Especially the comments that run (paraphrase): "This is abuse of their monopoly position! There are other feds out there!"

Does f*ck all for SugdenBarbell.co.uk Member 1, 7173 posts SQ 182.5, BP 110, DL 205497.5 kgs @ 107kgs UnEq Administrator | Metal owner Ano has commented further on his forum suggesting that lifters should be allowed to use the gear for a period of 3 years after a fee runs out. Sounds sensible to me.

I think that it would only be for kit purchased prior to them not paying the fee. It's a good idea to protect the lifters.
