Saw this in the T-Nation newsletter...

http://www.t-nation.com/readArticle.do?id=1785278

On page 2 near the end is the "Pencil Test";

1. Grab a couple of pencils and hold them in your hands with points facing out and your arms at your sides.

2. Look down at your hands. Where are the pencils pointed?

If they're pointed straight ahead, you have optimal shoulder posture and you're awesome. If they're pointed inward diagonally, you have slight internal rotation and you're less awesome. If they're pointing towards each other, you have severe internal rotation and you're completely not awesome.

Tried this and indeed, the pens pointed diagonally inwards, about 45 degrees.

Gonna try and remedy this with some of the suggested movements in the article.

How's yours?

Not quite but almost straight ahead... face pulls are the best for helping here I think, I rate them a lot more than cuban rotations and the like. I think my results pretty good especially when you consider the amount of pressing I've done to rowing for quite a while due to a small lat tear.

About 15 degrees in, which suprises me. Thought they would be MUCH worse with all the pushing I do.

What the f**k is pointing "outwards" outwards is not inwards so is that forward and out, sideways and out. Clearly written by a retard, or read by one.

pray be precise as to details as Sherlock Holmes once said

Agree with Pete. I did this...
1. Grab a couple of pencils and hold them in your hands with points facing out and your arms at your sides.
and then...
2. Look down at your hands. Where are the pencils pointed?

The points faced out as they were supposed to in 1.

As much as I hate being grouped with the Tyldslian Titan, I am on this one.

I get about 20-30 degrees inwards both sides so I better make sure I start doing more reverse work I guess! Still not too bad.

So a pencil in each hand pointing forward. Hands by sides. You move head a tad to look at hands and the pencils rotate ?

Freaks

No wonder you de-load every twenty minutes

Er yeah, you're supposed to relax your posture so your arms hang how they would normally.

It could have been worded better, technically you are right, it does tell you to point them in a specific direction. It basically means have the pen sticking forward out of your hand and not say, at the ground or something lol.

Mine point virtually straight across my body. If I had a semi the pencils would point to my tip, if I had a full sting on they would point about half way along. Is that bad?
