I think that if we all share our personal experiences this thread could healp other people to detect their own pre-overtraining.

I know that i'm a few workouts away from overtraining when: ( based on personal experiences, not books ):

  • i start to have interrupted sleeps (waking up in the middle of the night more than 1 time)
  • Dreams starts to get weird and complex.
  • I start to feel like if i'm in a rush for something even when i dont do anything.
  • Lack of appetite.
  • Lifts starts to get slow and less controlled.
  • Back muscles starts to get really tight.
  • I feel awake even when i'm sleeping.

All this after almost 2 weeks of squating, deadlifting and benching in the same day in a row (almost).

Many posts out there talks about overtraining, i thought that we should post our personal experiences about how do we feel before getting overtrained.

I personally, don't believe in overtraining. There's plenty of negative symptoms of training a lot, but you don't have to let them get in the way of your training progress. It just makes the rest of your life seem miserable...

I do however believe in training stupidity. Pushing on through injuries isn't clever, but if you're NOT injuring yourself, you're not training too much. All the effects of doing a lot of training are manageable. Injury isn't.

My base heartrate raises by a few bpm and I start to bruise more easily.
When this happens I know it's time to start relaxing.

Someone I know once said to me
"There's no such thing as overtraining. Only under resting."

He has a point.
