I'm entering a small strongman contest in 3 weeks and last year i did really badly on the log clean and press.

My upper body strength is much improved but I've only ever log pressed once, last year at the competition and it was very awkward.

My gym has no log bar or Swiss bar(The obvious alternative)

Today i tried Trap bar pressing which was interesting to say the least.
"Cleaning" it like a log is tough and ends up just hitting you in the nuts and pressing it in front is tough but felt similar to how i remember the log.

Also tried push pressing it from the rack being inside it but it felt like the weight was too easily distributed.

Someone also suggested using just dumbbells instead and working on max FTOH with 2 dumbbells but i wasn't sure which was best.

Thought/other alternatives?

You pressed a trap bar out the rack? Lol..

To be straight, ain't much to it but to log.

Yea, Had the weights in the final few inches so it would fit. Was lovely and awkward, just like a log. Tongue

Tbh i just wanted to practice pressing something with a neutral grip since i did really badly last year just training with press/push press on a normal barbell.

It's not the fact it's neutral grip that makes it hard. It's becoming comfortable in the position it puts you in on the chest and having elbows up Lats tight etc. hard to replicate.

Just get strong at strict and push press with a bar and you'll have a decent log, isn't there any strongman gyms near you?

There's a few Russian guys apparently but they charge £100 a month since each session has 1 on 1 supervision and them training you.

Next nearest one is like an hour away by Motorbike and where i'm doing the competition.

I suppose i do have like a 10kg stronger strict press than this time last year so even with crap technique i should do better,

I don't know how serious you are about competing, but if you are 1 hour isn't far for an event session

wen i had no log to practice on i used a combination of swiss bar, dumbells in the same position as log handles and barbell. wen i used a log i was always somewhere close to what i could do on a barbell

if there is really zero opportunity to use a log before the comp I would forget about mimicking the movement and just concentrate on you press with a barbell. and then just hope for the best!! the ideal would be to get some practice on one tho..
