This site could really do with a search option.

I'm going to try and develop a hook grip for deadlifting.

My plan is to warm up with a hook and see if I can push it along all the way up to my top sets.

Any hints or tips ?

How long do you think it'll take ?

It will come very quickly. Just try to do a heavier warmup each time with the hook grip. Once your thumbs get used to it, it should come on pretty quickly!

Having said that, I haven't stuck with hook grip long enough to use it with top weights but I don't imagine it would take me too long either!

Regarding the search function, you can use google to search thise site. If you start your google search with site:sugdenbarbell.co.uk then your search term it only returns stuff from this site.

Like so : http://lmgtfy.com/?q=site%3Asugdenbarbell.co.uk+hook+grip

I prefer hook grip to alternate

Took to it like a duck to water Grin

Use tape on my thumbs when necessary as the calluses can tear easily...

For me it makes for a shorter pull as well

Where can you buy the tape (Pharmacists) ?

Any mileage in making the thumbnail a little scored (for grip) ?

Is the tape legal for use in powerlfting comps ?

Small amount of tape is.

TBH once you thumbs toughen up won't be a big problem. However that dose depent how often you pull a week with the hook?

Boots do the tape and I'd assume most pharmacies would. I can't see there being any mileage in scoring the thumbnail at all and if you score to deep it's going to be kinda painful!

One thing I find with the hook grip is it's manageable for singles but it hurts like a b**ch if you're doing multiple reps. I actually still hook grip the bar when using a mixed grip. I don't know whether it improves my grip even moreso???

I forced my partner into hook grip as he would do double overhand up to about 95% of his max. He pulled hook grip and hit a 5rm PR first session. I don't get the pain thing, it's really not that bad.

Hook grip maxes
5 rep sets
10 rep sets
Even 20 rep sets

I know my deadlift isn't high, but makes no difference. I don't feel any pain whatsoever

I have been Hook gripping every workout for over 5 years and well used to it
