Gyms in Durham

Member 1434, 1 posts	I'm moving up to Durham next week to start university and was wondering if anyone knows of any strongman gyms in the area (Durham/Newcastle), I really want to start competing next year and want to get some events training started.

Red Bull is banned in netball Member 799, 1484 posts	No Strongman gyms as such that I know of, but Bob Daglish (Elite Strongman on here) has a training yard near Chester le Street which isn't far from Durham. They train on a Sunday about 1pm. Drop him a PM to see about starting. The Uni has a decent gym set up at Maiden Castle and I am sure some of the colleges have their own set ups too. There used to be some good gyms in town, but think they have all gone.

Owned by a pair of competitive bodybuilders. Hardcore but friendly environment. Birtley gym (in Birtley near Gateshead) is ok. Keeps getting closed down whenever a police raid happens. Atlas gym on Front Street in Washington is pretty good too. There's not much in Durham itself but all those places above are quite close. Edit: all 3 are powerlifting friendly. Not too sure about strongman equipment.

Jack currently is the British Natural Strongman champion 2009 & 2010 and will be competing in the World natural strongman comp in hungary at the end of October.

Red Bull is banned in netball Member 799, 1484 posts	For event training I would go to Bob's yard, they have all the event kit, lots of space and people who have been to the top of the Strongman and weighlifting tree to help you out.
