well done mate. I wouldnt be too disappointed. both dumbell and stones are the type of events that will really throw you if you havent much experience of them and different width logs can make a big difference. particularly going from 10' to 12'. sounds like you picked up some great experience for your next rodeo. look forward to seeing the vid.

(90 second rests between sets)

Axel Incline Bench
60kg x 13, 9, 8, 6, 6, 3 = 45 reps

Landmine Row
50kg x 10, 7, 7, 6, 6, 5 = 41 reps

Neck really hurting from something on Saturday, so went light/high reps for the rest of the workout. Going to rest it for a couple of days.

DB skull crushers
DB curl
DB shoulder complex

Well done! Beasted the MAS wrestling Happy Looks like a well-run comp.

Chris and Saipu were pretty damn impressive on the log. You can see how the larger diameter gave you trouble in the rack and dip. That's the thing with strongman. No matter how specific your training, if you don't have the exact same kit as the competition there's always something that might throw you off. The more experience you have, the easier it is to adapt.

Now for some unsollicited advice about the stone lift:

When your body "shuts down" like that, it's telling you "this isn't going to happen because physics/certain death, why are you making me try?". Insufficient grip strength is a typical reason (e.g. on an overhand deadlift attempt where the bar doesn't move), but here it looks more like a balance issue. Your feet are a bit too far back and your hands a bit too far forward; you're having to pull the stone backwards off the floor, and your hands aren't strong enough to stop it from rolling back and out, so your brain hits the "abort" switch.
Your feet, knees, hands and shoulders should all be aligned vertically above the center of the stone, hands wedged underneath as much as possible. Then, SLDL the stone up to knee height before trying to lap it. A lot of failed lifts with people who lack experience with stones come from trying to lap too early. You can still practice all of this with a sandbag, keeping an open hand grip and making sure you lift it far enough off the ground before lapping it (no grabbing the fabric, no squishing the bag over the knees, etc.).

Appreciate the advice! I will try to incorporate that as you suggest. I don’t have anyone near me who has strongman knowledge so I need all the help I can get.

And yes it was definitely a body shutting down type feeling. First feeling was surprised. I 100% thought it wouldn’t be an issue. Next was panic Grin

Thanks, yeah was well-organised. Sorry about the "music" lol.

It's become obvious I herniated a cervical disk at some point on the Saturday. Unhappy I presume it was the stone to shoulder but I didn't feel anything at the time so I'm not sure. It didn't start feeling really bad until Monday.

Week of rest then five-six weeks of fat loss and very light dumbbell work I suppose. Also wondering about signing up for a gym that has machines so I can train that way. A bit worried as last time I did my neck (work team buidling activity) it took around a year to fully recover.

Light RDLs, squats and then some
grip work. Light stuff seems to make neck feel better
