That is all x2 Ive loved boxing from an early age and have immense respect for anyone who steps in the ring , I trained at a local am club when I was in my late teens but had neither the dedication or guts if im honest to take it further , I have no issues at all with Freddie having a crack at going pro , hes put some solid graft in from what ive seen in the first 2 parts of the documentary and so what if hes getting more publicity or better training than aspiring youngsters , theres always been an element of who you know not what you know in pro boxing with good fighters getting overlooked because they havent kissed the right ass or signed with the right people , Frank maloney has done more damage to boxing with those kind of games and politics than Flintoff could ever manage. One thing I did question though , if Freddie had been as dedicated to his fitness whilst playing cricket and got his weight down would his career have lasted a bit longer? I know he was carrying a good bit of excess bf whilst playing and that couldnt have done his joints much good , I wonder if this dosent workout will he do a shane warne and use his new found fitness and lighter frame to make a comeback? Big money to be made in the IPL

always lookIng for the extra UT2 work. Member 9, 18279 posts SQ 210, BP 167.5, DL 260637.5 kgs @ 103kgs UnEq | Interesting points ystradyboy. Flintoff was a big unit steaming in bowling 90+mph - definitely would have been very intimidating for most batsmen. His opponent has had 3 fights and won them all, so hopefully won't be a total bum. Hopefully just enough of one for Freddie to smash his head in! Gutted it's PPV. Does anyone know any good websites that might have it on?

31.6 and Obese !! Get in.... Member 869, 1355 posts SQ 320, BP 200, DL 310830.0 kgs @ 97.5kgs Eq | I think it's far too easy to get pulled into the politics and morality of it all. At the end of the day, Boxing is a sport, it's entertainment. Now I don't know, the bout itself may well be a total shower of s**te. However it has grabbed the imagination of certainly the boxing fans and also the wider sporting community. Flintoff is a top lad. McGuigan is a well-respected boxing legend. I really don't think either would put their reputation on the line for a 'gimmick'. I don't believe they would do it if they didn't believe they could make it happen. As for not doing anything for boxing, he's already done more good for boxing than quite a few of our recent heavyweight hopefuls.

Is it that much different to Geoff Capes, Lou Ferrigno, Gary Taylor, switching from their respective sports to strongman. Flintoff is not a celebrity he is an ex professional sportsman. If he's good enough in 14 weeks, and the BBBC have decided he is, then good for him.

I would think a 'celebrity' would enter a novice comp and be pretty damn proud of his achievement nomatter how he placed , and like all people who put in all the time and effort to train and have the balls to enter a competition , they would be supported by their peers !!

I took about £4 out of Sooty's bottom Member 685, 8719 posts SQ 225, BP 150, DL 290665.0 kgs @ 93kgs UnEq | I take my hat off to Flintoff, have gained massive respect for the bloke watching the programmes. I have no issue with him or any other celeb having a go.They said they could have side stepped the BBBOC but wanted to keep it as 'kosher' as possible. I'd pay to watch loads of other celeb sportsmen fight. Hell I'd happily be the opponent for John Terry. In other news I appear to have the fight. I'm currently watching the Price v Skelton fight. My mate paid for a fight a while back at my house and I reckon he must still be paying coz I certainly haven't Skelton looks in better shape than I remember back when he was only old!

Kettlebells RULE !!! Member 3699, 407 posts | Has Maloney considered Flintoff's massive benefit to boxing through positive publicity? This will open doors for young fighters to get televised fights more easily. As a business man Maloney's opinion surprises me and smacks of elitism which is negative (IMO) in all sports. 'I love the sport' and 'I don't think others deserve to be part of it' don't sit well to me. Choose a side, be positive and inclusive or don't. Good luck Freddie, well done on the graft preparing.
