Contemplating entering my first powerlifting comp but not sure if my lifts are good enough, don't want to turn up and just scrape through. My stats at present are BW is 76kg 34yrs old Squat 120kg 1-2reps ,Deadlift 160kg 1rep, Bench 90kg 1-2reps. Always trained off and on but last few months have switched to strength training and have become instantly addicted to it and would like to test myself in a comp but I'm slightly hesitant, any help or feedback would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks for your time

Every meet I have ever been too, there was a mix of abilities , everyone is supported and encouraged , I would urge you to join a federation and enter the next comp available ... just make sure you are lifting within the rules of that fed - i.e not doing s**tty form or wearing the wrong kit

as soon as you step on the platform, you will know you made the right decision

best of luck

your lifts are fine !!

I echo Boars comments. With reference to the fed, it may be worth looking to see how strong a fed is in your area, you may have to travel further for some federations, just to do a 'regional' comp, and that may factor in for you.
I'm sure wherever you do decide to lift, you'll have a similar positive experience regardless of the fed.

GPC - i like lifting here because it's quite an event at their meets always well run, consistent judging DJ playing your own tunes for attempts, food and drink at venue etc. Plenty of comps around the country next year to enter.

And don't worry about your total! just compete. until you've performed under scrutiny of judges your total is just gym lifts.

I entered a meet last year. Over trained, over dieted and lifted at 70kg less than I expected. Also injured my back squatting. Lol

Guess what I had a great day and LEARNED what powerlifting is about. I left that day eager to prove myself and become a better lifter.

Granted I am not a great lifter, but I am much better than what I used to be.

Anyway sorry for the long winded post, but enter that meet, get a good peaking program and smash some pb's. Doesn't matter where u place and what you total, you will love it.

I have no knowledge of it. Go for it. Every fed is good for a beginner.

Go and do it. Aim for 9 good lifts.remember that it's your first comp, so no matter what you lift it will be a comp pb.

Any fed is good for a beginner.
Don't overthink things at this stage, enter it, get the basics right, turn up and enjoy !!!

BPU is a pretty god fed. GPC is better though.

Agreed - don't set any expectations other than to immerse yourself and enjoy the experience and learn how it feels to have to perform 9 attempts when instructed
and to judges satisfaction.

Would someone who normally has to walk a squat out of the rack have much difficulty a monolift? I fancy having a bash in GPC myself and notice they use a monolift.

i think you'll benefit from training in one - my walk out was better than mono at euros. now i am 50kg up on that comp.
it felt like I was going to fall over and i could never get my feet in right position until about 3rd session at ralls.

don't know where you are but up north england there's ralls leeds and olympic gym eccles with monolifts that i know of.

(would be a good thread actually 'gyms with monolifts')

I have never tried a mono.

I quite like using a walkout. Perhaps I would say different if I was putting up serious poundage.
