Wondered if anyone has gone through a period where they can't seem to 'get up' psychologically for an upcoming competion ?
I've had it for a couple of months, still training hard, still keen to train etc but can't get excited or motivated enough to compete.
Had a couple of injuries which have held my squat back, but it goes beyond that as I was feeling this way before these occurred.
Competing in 3 weeks, second comp in 3 months'ish.
If you've been through a similar thing, what did you find that helped ? If anything ?
Thought about binning off the comps for a year, just train and get the hunger back, or even switch to a bit of strongman and do it for pure enjoyment.

Stopped competing. Worked a treat. Lack of motivation to compete is no longer an issue.

As someone with no chance of winning a major title I can't think of a single reason to compete. If I am not competitive I won't (and actually Can Not) compete. So I'm probably done unless through some miracle I can add 100kg to my total.

Why is winning such a big deal?

I dont think you have to compete just to win, for me competing improves my own performance and motivates me to train harder amoung other benefits

I've had this a little bit this past week but I've just seen the line up for one of my next comps and the fire is back!

Edit: There does seem to be a thing in powerlifting where winning doesnt matter but thats the point of a competition!

I still compete but only with myself. My target this year is to break my Squat, Bench and Deadlift PB. That's the competition I'm currently embroiled in.
The great thing about this competition is that it saves me a considerable amount of money, (entry, affiliation, hotel, travel, sustenance, regulation equipment/kit) saves time (travel, overnight stay) and prevents frustration (Getting smoked by men of similar size and bodyweight to me)

My suggestion if your motivation to compete is waning, simply compete with yourself. When the competition monkey comes off your back the enjoyment returns.

feeling bit like this atm and it's because I've not felt I can take any time off hard training between quals and euros due to them being only 10 weeks or so apart. sure the deload week pre comp will help but an offseason free of any competition based emotional stress for 6-8 months is probably a good idea and is what I'll be doing after this.

As was mentioned above - I stopped competing as there were far better people out there than myself at u90kg - Will Sanderson, Adam Hales, Tom Hibbert etc. I know Hales is natural, not too sure about the other two. Even our own Kilo is better than me!

Any comps that were "light" would just be a trophy, rather than actually being the strongest. For me to win, it would be being the strongest out of a bunch of really s**t people, myself included.
