Is there any place for these in a powerlifting programme? I seem to remember being given something like this by a physiotherapist when I was a child for the purpose of activating a muscle in my upper back.

Perhaps the pads could be stuck on all muscle groups for a full body sofa workout.

Any thoughts?

Whilst I enjoy the concept of sofa based training, I don't think these devices would do anything for strength. You wouldn't get a big bench from twitching your pecs.

Yes, you're a f**king idiot!!

Sorry Jack! In truth, no I don't think there is any place for them because it's an isometric contraction only so whilst it can improve strength it does so only at that particular joint angle. Unless you can work a joint through its full ROM it's going to be fairly useless.

I think it taught my VMO to fire again after ACL surgery. If nothing else it helped re-gain the neuromuscular connection.

Isometric contractions, eh? Perhaps they'd have value in grip work, if anyone has the stones to try...

Edit: does anyone know if electrolina abuse increases mole count or moonpalm? Has anyone asked Colin Bryce's face?

600mg is a fine full body sofa workout.

whilst idea it'll spot reduce (reason most would buy one - to bring their abs out) is pretty much bro-science (although there are some tentative studies showing there is a tiny increase in fat mobilization from local area being exercised), there are some uses generally to EMS. old t-nation article (back when it was a decent online mag) from coach stanozoloal himself, charlie francis about use of EMS in elite athletics.

EMS use in athletes

From one who knows. Do NOT try it. Especially if you haven't used enough gel in the pads Unhappy

You can put them on her ass cheeks so they clench and relax whilst you're up there.

Charlie Francis - the sprinting coach - was an advocate of them.
However, his expertise was sprinting; so he recommended high box squats, etc. as his clientele was specifically based around very specific body positioning.
