Sold my pioneer cdj1000mk3 cd deck on ebay a couple weeks ago, someone brought it at the BIN price of £800, paid almost straight away and arranged for it to be picked up, all seemed to go smooth no issues

till Saturday when i had an email from paypal...

The lying prick had claimed its an unauthorized transaction and had his credit card reverse it, resulting in my paypal account being -£800 plus the £100 or so that i already had in there whilst paypal investigate it

Luckily i still had emails and texts relating to the guy asking for my address to arrange pick up and telling me that someone was on the way to pick it up

have forwarded these to paypal so just waiting for them to investigate now

The cd deck is still on an active insurance policy i have, does anyone know if i can just report it to the police as fraud/theft and then claim it on the insurance?

thats s**t dude but also think asking to claim it on insurance on a public forum is not wise either

its insured against theft... if paypal dont give me my money back then he's essentially stolen it from me (the definition of theft is dishonestly appropriating property belonging to another with the intention of permanently depriving the other of it)

Thats why i asked the question of if anyone knows if i'd be able to claim on the insurance for it

If it is the same guy and he is just making a half assed attempt at ripping you off then i would hope he will be found out

esp if your correspondence with him was using the same email address he uses to logon to paypal (and you can have more than 1 address registered to your paypal account)

some weasel trying to screw you over is a f**king nightmare !!

You won't be able to claim for that.

If he has physically taken your property you can claim for the item itself but the way i read he never picked it up?

You can't claim for the paypal money will just be told to go back to paypal, there will also be a money limit on the policy anyway making it not worth the claim (usuall 150/250 or 500 for higher end policys)

it also a common exclusion for property lost by any payment proved to be counterfiet or false or fraudulent

Hmm guess my best option if paypal dont give me my money back is to call insurance company and see what they say, but wont expect much

Do you not have an address for this person. Or even call the police this surely it fraud and you can identify him.

Apparently this scam isn't uncommon. I suppose the only thing to try if you accept Paypal for an item that's going to be picked up is to photograph the person collecting it holding the sale item but who's going to do that ?

The other options woud be to only accept Paypal for items you send by registered and insured post,or to only accept cash for items picked up in person.

Sorry to hear some bas***d scammed you.
