Are they a gym necessity? Do you use them and what for? What sort of weight do you go upto?

Seems they aren't used much or are more useful in the heavier range. I have a light set and some loadable handles but they are fruiting awkward with oly size 5s and 10s on.

I've just bought one - after about 30 years training without them !
The weight you can handle when unused to them is pathetic.
Can't do any harm to persevere with it though I suppose.

I would say they're not a necessity as there are other barbell options, but I use them for hammer curls 15-20s etc, and I use the heavy ones for DB rows upto 70+. I hardly ever touch them other than that, maybe if I have lots of time or fancy a some variety/

They go up to 70kg where I train, I use the 70s on seated dumbell presses! I'm a huge fan of DBs for muscle building!
