So, what kind of cross section are we getting. I know that I am a first timer Novice, I can also see that we have at least one national level competitor...What kind of calibur are the rest of you guys...Am I the only first timer? Do we have some Intermediates? any Open Competitors (though I only know one natural 'open' competitor)?

What about weight split, looks like we are going from around 80kg all the way up!!! Should be a good cross section of people.

Also, are family and supporters welcome to attend? Is there other stuff going on (for kids etc)...?

everyone is welcome to attend, we are still trying to get the kids activities sorted out (it was the last issue, having a kids activity and no kegs for the competitors would have been abit useless Grin )there will be astall with some spectator challenges and food will be available through the kitchen of monster gym

going by t-shirt size theres an even spread going from little squirts in mediums all the way through to the fatty boom booms in XXXL, but then again maybe we just have one of those vain fatty boom booms who likes to squeeze into a medium t-shirt for a friday night Wink

quite a few first timers

going by this thread and all the speculation on who will win maybe I should organise a local bookie to come and have a stall Grin

Glen, Got any plans for a post comp meal? also are there saunas/steam rooms etc availble after the comp?

EDIT: Im interested to see who is wearing the XXXL shirt. I went for an XL, and im a fat c**t. lol. talking of t shirts, of course the main reason we are all doing this comp is for one.. are they nice? Wink

I ran out of fingers and toes but I think I counted 22 competitors... Are you going to cap it there?

In future I am only going to enter comps with less than 4 people in...to ensure a podium finish!!!LOL.

only two days left to closing date - did think I was originally going to cap it at twenty but didnt, probably expect around 25 so this means just need to be bloody organised on the day and get through things double quick with change overs and set ups etc

How is the max log going to work? Will one competitor lift, then lift again, and again etc... or will everybody do 80kg, then everybody do 85, then everybody do 90 ...?

What are you going to raise it by each time 10kg? 5kg?

hadnt expalined this properly in the manual I wrote out.

considering the numbers currently it will work as follows

everyone starts with one lift with the empty log, after that like a powerlifting comp you select a weight to lift and if successfull will select an increased weight to attempt - failure to lift will mean you out, four attempts per person.

if your desired weight is above what the others are lifting you weight to jump in at the point the weight gets to your attempt, minimum 5kg incremental jumps

heaviest press wins - in this sense it also becomes tactical as if you select a weight to heavy and miss you cant go lower on an attempt and could lower your placing

everything will be explained in better terms on the athletes meeting before the event kicks off

with twenty odd competitors it wouldnt be practical to get everyone to do every weight at 5kg increments

Just to be clear then.

I have to lift the empty log and then decide on 4 log weights that I think I can get. I then wait until the increments have gone up to where I want to jump back in, then I do my lifts...the highest successful one will be recorded as my total? Is that about right?

Seems like a pretty good way of doing it if this is right....however, with 25 people lifting 4 times each its still a pretty long 100rep event..at least thats a bit of rest time for us between reps I suppose...

Got two days of training left and then I am taking the week off to rest up for this...Nervous now!!!
