Sparrow | Does anybody know anything about cutting rope and/or knots? | 06-01-2013 @ 17:31
always lookIng for the extra UT2 work. Member 9, 18279 posts SQ 210, BP 167.5, DL 260637.5 kgs @ 103kgs UnEq | I have some manila rope that I want to cut a couple of metres off. What is the best way to cut it and to stop the ends from fraying? Also, what is the best knot to use to tie the end of it to a bar (it can be a permanent knot...)? Thanks for any help.

Cut the end with a sharp knife, wrap the f**k out of the end in electrical or duct tape then tie a bowline knot. Its a self tightening knot that can always be undone regardless of how tight it gets.

It looks like it would burn. I never got round to doing this, but am going to do it soon. I think I'm going to go with what Rico suggested, but may also try a bit of superglue (or melting) on the ends of the rope.

It's natural rope so it would burn. Hot glue from a glue gun would work well too.

Braiding is better, dipping in wood glue is fantastic! As for the knot. Bowline is the answer to a permanent knot.
