jg250 | ![]() | Deadlift Max too low? | 30-01-2014 @ 17:00 |
![]() Member 4500, 220 posts SQ 200, BP 130, DL 260590.0 kgs @ 112kgs UnEq | I competed in a strongman comp the other day where the deadlift was for reps at 200kg. I got 15 reps. I am confused why my Max is 235kg. What do you think it should be from the 15 reps at 200. Was thinking more like 250-270?

Member. Member 2171, 1612 posts | I did similar in my second comp. 13 reps at 200kg and my max was under 240kg. Don't compare them both though, they are testing different things.

![]() Member 3714, 637 posts SQ 265, BP 177.5, DL 265707.5 kgs @ 97kgs Eq | maybe the top part of your deadlift is stronger? might explain how you managed to lock out so many? where do you tend to 'stick' when testing 1RM? off the floor or higher up?

![]() Member 3757, 1746 posts SQ 202.5, BP 110, DL 255567.5 kgs @ 82kgs UnEq | I would say you got an adrenalin boost. I get it as well, can do almost double reps in comps and my max is probably 15kg higher in a comp.

My asshole is not watertight. Member 2926, 6051 posts SQ 217.5, BP 107.5, DL 225550.0 kgs @ 86kgs UnEq | When I was bodybuilding I used to do a 200kg back squat for 10-12. My 1RM was 220kg. As Wayne said, some people are better at repping and it can depend on numerous factors such as training history, technique, neural efficiency, general fatigue levels. It is was it is at the end of the day. Just look for comps with deadlift for reps events instead of max deadlift! ![]()

I hit a pb today with a chest infection Member 3283, 1921 posts | Or because it might be the adrenalin of the comp making you do so much reps then next do a comp with max dead and you'll probably see it sail past your current pb

Member 4496, 1446 posts SQ 240, BP 200, DL 300740.0 kgs @ 112kgs UnEq | Post Edited: 30.01.2014 @ 19:05 PM by DeanW92 I agree with the others, could be comp day adrenaline which can help alot or some people are jst better at repping. Will add something that others havnt mentioned though... touch and go reps, obviously make it much easier. I was once repping with a weight, pausing at the bottom each rep and I got to 10, only jst got the 10th rep and knew that no way in hell could I get more. So I thought I would try getting a tng rep, I ended up getting another 4 reps doing it this way. Not fulling resetting each rep in a comp is cheating, just saying!?

Member 4975, 58 posts | Also, with the deadlift you don’t really have any help from a stretch reflex until after the first rep. So most people can rep a deadlift at a higher percentage than other lifts. In your case the stretch reflex might be helping you through a particular weak point and/or technical issue which is exaggerating the difference even more.
