Still got a little bit of strength Member 400, 22042 posts | Apparently it's all about using the quads more. That's what a 'gym expert' told Dan Baseley anyway.

This is something I always do when using an alternating grip on deads. OK to avoid imbalances in the first place, but maybe not the answer if the imbalances are already well established?

jerking is obviously great, Member 2521, 4712 posts SQ 235, BP 160, DL 290685.0 kgs @ 111kgs UnEq | Post Edited: 15.01.2019 @ 21:17 PM by Terminator I'd wear straps when it gets heavy Mr Ravens I tore my bicep mixed grip deadlifting in 2016, so I wear straps in training. In competition I switch seamlessly to hook grip EDIT: I don't think there's a lot of truth in "if you deadlift with straps you will lose grip", my grip by any measure is no weaker than it was when I was pulling without straps

Mr.Potato deadlift Member 2675, 4628 posts SQ 300, BP 200, DL 300800.0 kgs @ 110kgs UnEq | Definitely detrimental to deadlift. I warm up every week DOH to 180kg and have gone up to 225 before but it offers no real benefit I believe. My body position changes slightly with DOH too. When breaking with the weight I can feel my hips begin to rise ever so slightly before the weight breaks which doesn’t happen with straps or mixed. So yes, detrimental, DOH up to the most you can before either grip gives way or body positioning changes and then straps. Don’t let grip be detrimental to your deadlift but don’t let under/over be detrimental to your scoliosis

I eat a lot of meat Member 5124, 2996 posts SQ 245, BP 130, DL 275650.0 kgs @ 105kgs UnEq | When I used to train, be it strongman or powerlifting, I would always warm up DOH until it was just too heavy. At that point, I would switch to mixed grip or Captain Hook grip. I did go through a stage of using straps all the time when doing strongman, but wanted to feel the bar and weight more, coupled with trying to improve my grip. I then stopped using straps and went DOH which much like yourself, made me feel twisty and left me unbalanced to the point of injury. I then discovered Captain Hook grip and BANG-A-RANG it was my choice. Now for you, my drumming amigo, I would warm up DOH and then use straps once it get's too heavy. I prefer figure 8 straps personally.

There used to be someone on sugden called Pompy. He was funny and eventually got banned for some reason or another. Well anyway, he spoke of something called "abseiling" which is rubbing one out with a thumb in your angus. How I loaled at that post.

I've thumbed a few anguses as I'm sure many other blokes have. Also, thumbing your own angus is probably far, far easier than fingering it due to not having the need to supinate the hand to get the fingers pointing upwards. Pompy was obviously clued up in this regard!
