I hate running so decided to join another gym. The nearest gyms are crossfit or have no good bars. I tried a crossfit class and it was five singles of really light oly lifting followed by AMRAP of 20 skipping, 10 lunges and 5 burpies. Why is this so popular? They have Rouge bars, bumpers etc. and the guys were lifting 30-40kg.I asked the instructor what I was missing and he said its the start of the 12 week cycle and that most of the members don't want to be 'jacked.'

Please insult me further!! Member 5626, 92 posts SQ 165, BP 110, DL 210485.0 kgs @ 100kgs UnEq | I know what you mean. I tried Crossfit and found it to be just as you describe. I think it's aimed more at fitness with weight rather than bulking up etc

no really Irish Member 1196, 5908 posts SQ 312, BP 230, DL 320862.0 kgs @ 114kgs UnEq | Because training hard is fun afterwards and people don't understand exercise physiology.

Sports an extremely muscular arse. Member 38, 6253 posts | I thought the whole allure of Crossfit was that it could be scaled to the individual. I think this Crossfit trainer missed the boat.

Sports an extremely muscular arse. Member 38, 6253 posts | But yeah agree with Marc, the randomness is retarded and it's not how high level Crossfiters train.

I'm not sure I agree with either point entirely, although I do think a distinct lack of clear progression isn't the best of ideas.

what is everyone's fran time? Member 3986, 10443 posts SQ 340, BP 200, DL 400940.0 kgs @ 129kgs Eq | Crossfitters do crossfit. They dont do the wods from the site or just random s**t all the time but they do train crossfit.

You have to train your sport. I'm not saying they don't train Crossfit. But the randomness just isn't there with high level Crossfitters. There is a plan which takes from A to B. Just like if you wanted to improve your Log Press, you'd have some sort of plan not do a bunch of haphazard s**t. With the goals of Crossfit being quite varied you see some interesting training methods. Every interview I've read, every routine I've seen from high level Crossfitters has them talking about training blocks, short term goals, periodisation. It's not the same as turning up to your box and doing "stuff" for the day. That's my point.

Since been deported sadly. Good lads. I like the set up and the guys at pear mill. Not sure if it's still a crossfit gym though anymore.

still a devious weightlifting bastard Member 43, 14374 posts | Mr Beck had the opportunity to relocate to the detached building across from the main mill, and has done a sterling job of doing so. He has a brilliant set up. The last time I was there his old venue was a frozen food discount store. The over priced bike shop was on the opposite side of the mill.
