Considering that they are legal to possess I thought this was odd, banning someone for doing something legal !

It's not an issue for me but I know it may be for some others

What are the thoughts of my non police but meathead comrades on here ?

I'd imagine that there are a few occupations like this. I know for instance that there are a fair few things a teacher can be sacked for which are legal but would be judged as 'disreputable.' It's an interesting point, to which I don't fully know the answer. Which means I'm actually bringing nothing to this debate...

If a cop is buying steroids in this country, then isn't he technically doing business with a drug dealer? Can see why this might be frowned upon.

Plus the guys who are high up and make these kind of decisions are probably ignorant about steroids and just believe what they read in the Daily Mail.

This is the main issue.

The act of procuring one's steroids be it from big faz round the back of the spar in his Subaru or completely anonymously on the internet, is itself facilitating a crime.

Going abroad, buying gear and bringing it in for your personal use is legal.

Pro hormones are also banned - it just screams "someone said these are bad" rather than any logic - another reason why I can't wait to leave the police

I can see why they're banned for police officers. Let's say, hypothetically, a complaint is made of excessive force against Officer X, and when it is investigated further it turns out Officer X is a steroid user - this changes the narrative (in the eyes of a huge proportion of people) from "officer doing his job, perhaps a little heavy handed" to "juiced up policeman can't control his rage". Anyone prosecuting them would have a field day with it.

Of course this is only hypothetical, as we all know if a policeman was getting investigated and they found something potentially incriminating they would just destroy it anyway.

i dont think they should.

firstly they'd no doubt nick some one for selling them n send them to jail, unless its their supplier then its fine turn a blind eye.

secondly peds can make people short tempered n more aggressive which isnt great given the situations many cops can end up dealing with.

lastly i dont think they need to be bigger or stronger than the criminals as they are well trained and well equipped and usually arrive in more than enough numbers to deal with the situation.

Think its harsh if that's what some police want to take, but it is illegal to sell in this country isn't it ? and also am I right in saying they also don't like I if you a BNP member, is this more of a case of ethics than just legal right and wrongs?

Respectfully I think he is right little a, there were facts and figures realesed last year I think that basically said that a large portion of the police force were really unfit.I know three police men and none of them are as strong as I am that's just fact, they are trained to work as a team as far as I'm aware, the guys I know are all reasonably fit tho, it makes me laugh when you hear "it took 7 cops to arrest that guy blah blah" well of course it did for the safety of the officers and the detainee, if it were a one on one or a two on one punch up it would take so many....gotta look after the Crim's human rights.
