Bit of a random topic, but hopefully it's not a "ruining Sugden" type of thread that I'm regularly accused of producing!

What have you encountered?

Grass snake

Adder

Smooth snake

My lifetime totals are...

Grass snakes - 7 - 3 of them were dead.

Adders - 1 - one was pointed out to me swimming in a lake when I was a kid, but it was a very indistinct sighting. Bit like a squatch sighting!

Smooth snakes - 0

I want to encounter more! Unfortunately there are no apemen roaming the English countryside for me to try to catch glimpses of in my spare time, so I have to seek contentment in other ways Happy

Didnt think you had snakes over there in the UK! (Or am I thinking Ireland?)

Here in Australia we have bucket loads and just about everyone of them will kill you haha!

My girlfriend took a video of a grass snake going for a swim in the river next to a pub in Bedford the other day; I'd never seen a snake swimming in this country before.

I used to live in Royston in Hertfordshire - the whole town is crawling with Grass Snakes, Adders, Viviparous lizards and common lizards.

I once walked into a brood of about 6 vipers on the heath there - they're pretty small, but have really evil reddy-orange colour eyes. They were not pleased to see me. I ran. Grin

Seen three adders on separate occasions while walking on the moors. On all three occasions it was sunny and they were basking on rocks.
