good luck with the essay. whats it on? you at uni? studying?

Glad its not just me!

Yeah I'm at uni. Got to hand one in today that's on the relationship between religion and politics. And another in tomorrow that's all about how ideological perspectives have affected the development of the welfare state. Thatcher and stuff basically haha.

Ever so interesting :/

On Friday afternoon I got a call inviting me to a little in-house competition at Horncastle, that was happening tonight. I didn't train on Friday to give myself a little rest in preparation for this. But, because of the weather and the distance decided to give the Horncastle thing a miss. Me and Dan decided to run through competition lifts with commands and things for a bit of practice at the gym anyway. Here's what happened:

Squat:
Bar x 10
60kg x 5
80kg x 4
100kg x 3
115kg x 2
125kg
135kg
140kg- Failed on depth.
140kg- Gave it another try because it felt quite comfortable and I didn't think going a little deeper would make it much harder. Failed again. I suck!

Bench:
Bar x 10
40kg x 5
50kg x 4
55kg x 3
60kg x 2
65kg
70kg
72.5kg- Failed. I'm blaming this on Dan, his press command seemed really slow, it felt like I had the bar on my chest for years, that's the best excuse I can come up with.

Deadlift:
60kg x 5
100kg x 4
115kg x 3
130kg x 2
150kg
165kg
I didn't bother with a third deadlift after 165kg felt awfully hard!

All together not that bad really. Hadn't prepared for it as I would a competition, so it was a bit unrealistic to expect to lift like I might in a competition. But still a pleasing and enjoyable session.

i dont believe this even happened, my commands were very nearly professional! although i did nearly fall over deadlifting!

Bit of festive training today, Christmas songs make quite good music to train to!

It was absolutely freezing in the gym so it took a while to get going today.

Bench press:
Bar x 12
40kg x 8
50kg x 6
55kg x 5
60kg x 5 x 5

Last rep of each set was paused.
These felt very easy, which surprised me a bit as I was sooooo cold!

Deadlift:
60kg x 8
80kg x 5
100kg x 5
115kg x 5

Again very easy, building back up with my deadlift, I can't wait to get back up to weights that are a challenge for me.

Speed deads:
90kg x 3 x 3

I was really happy with these, felt fast and good in general. Made up for last week's deadlifts being poor!

Bent Rows:
40kg x 8
50kg x 8, 8, 8

Dips:
BW x 8
+ 5kg x 5
+ 10kg x 5, 5

This was the first time I've added weight for dips. Adding this small amount was easy, but I couldn't add anymore because the chain in the gym has gone missing so I was having to add weight using a hook over my belt which couldn't hold anything bigger than a 10kg plate.

Merry Christmas!

Strong benching mate. 60kg 5x5 will surely set you up for a 75kg+ 1RM, good effort.

My bench is weird. 60kg for 5 x 5 easily today, but failed an attempted single with 72.5kg on Monday. Doesn't really sound right!

Thanks though Happy

I got myself down to the gym today again, its a bit difficult motivating myself over the Christmas period, I just want to stay home and drink!

Bench press:
Bar x 12
40kg x 8
50kg x 5
55kg x 5
62.5kg x 5 x 5

These weren't as snappy my bench was last week, but again felt good. Things are looking ok for a single PB sometime soon, hopefully anyway!

Squat:
Bar x 15
60kg x 8
80kg x 5
90kg x 5 x 5

These felt comfortable up until the fourth rep of my last set, I've no idea what happened, but I felt a slight twinge towards the left side of my lower back. It still feels uncomfortable now, but hopefully it'll be fine!

Bent row:
55kg x 8, 8, 8

Dips:
BW + 10kg x 5
+ 15kg x 5, 5

Pretty satisfactory session again, seems to be gonig alright!

Today signalled another session in the freezing cold gym, I'm kind of looking forward to getting back to uni, the gym is s**t, but at least its heated!

Deadlifts (Warms up done still wearing my coat!):
60kg x 8
100kg x 6
120kg x 5

Very, very easy, obviously a light weight, but still felt really good.

Speed deadlifts:
92.5kg x 3 x 3

Strict Press:
Bar x 10
30kg x 6
40kg x 5 x 5

Felt alot better than the last time I was pressing this weight. It felt easy, as it should!

Power shrugs:
90kg x 8, 8, 8.

These felt really hard, a bit too hard for an assistance exercise. Might drop the weight a little bit next time, or just stick at 90kg until it feels a bit easier before moving up.

Finished off with some ab related stuff, weighted sit ups and the like.

Nice easy session, apart from the shrugs. Feeling really positive about my training at the minute!

I had to rush my session this morning and miss out squats so that I could get done in time. I borrowed my Mum's car to drive to the gym and she decided to let me know about five minutes before I was leaving that she'd need it back within and hour and a half, not ideal! This is the first time I've only squatted once in a week for months!

Bench:
Bar x 15
40kg x 8
50kg x 5
55kg x 5
62.5kg x 5 x 5
50kg x 10

These felt better than they did on Monday, bench seems to be going rather well.

Bent rows:
55kg x 8, 8, 8.

Dips:
+12.5kg x 5, 5, 5, 5, 6.
BW x 8

Decided to reduce the weight that I was adding a little bit after I really found +15kg hard on Monday. Seemed easy with 12.5kg, so I'll be moving back up next week.

Possibly one day. My training leading up to my next comp is sorted, but after that I might give this 5 3 1 thing a blast!

Today was my final session at Force 10 before I head back to Lincoln and start training at FitSpace and in Horncastle again. I'm not looking forward to training at one of those two places again, guess which?!

Bench press:
Bar x 15
40kg x 8
50kg x 5
55kg x 5
60kg x 3
65kg x 5 x 5

These felt even better than sets with 62.5kg did last week. By my low standards my bench is flying at the minute, I can't wait to finally beat 70kg, in theory it should happen soon if I keep managing sets of 5 with a weight so close to my current 1rm!

Squat:
Bar x 12
60kg x 8
80kg x 5
100kg x 5 x 5

These felt a bit harder than I was expecting, but there was never any danger of me failing any of the reps so I can't complain!

Dan (dan302) then spent a bit of time trying to teach me to powerclean. I want to add these into my training to maybe help with my explosiveness off the floor for deadlifts. I just played around doing lots of reps with 40kg trying to get the hang of the technique. With a bit more practice I should get it!

Bent rows:
40kg x 8
57.5kg x 8, 8, 8.

Dips:
BW x 8
+12.5kg x 5, 5, 5.
BW x 8

Really enjoyable session, a good way to end my little stint of training in Sc**thorpe!
