You going to have a pop at them for using the term 'British Championships' too?

Very pleased with the numbers entered particularly as so many of the membership are away competing in the WDFPLF SINGLES in Malta the week before. Many others will be preparing for the WDFPLF World Championships 4 weeks later in Ireland also.
This is an open competition and we welcome many new lifters and others from the Celtic nations as well as experienced and International standard competitors.
The single lifters will compete in their respective weight classes with the powerlifters.62 powerlifters and 12 single lifters entered.
We will offer a warm welcome to everyone who comes to compete, officiate or spectate (£2).
Cafe open all day, music, free parking in Athletic Club car park.
All competitors MUST sign a disclaimer,a Drugs test consent form and show their 2010 membership card to the referees at the weigh in.Anyone entered in an age category needs to provide proof of age.Remember that you must be dressed according to the Rules (includes long socks for deadlift).A kit check will take place.
Details of the entry will be posted on the BDFPA web site soon.
Regards to everyone,
Paul

This will be my first 3 lift comp (equipped) with the BDFPA. Only have 4 weeks to prepare as entered last minute. Hoping to scrape together a qualifying total (90kg open) for next years British. Not fun throwing kit on this quickly and adjusting to increased weight from a long off season.

Now to sort out this diet and drop a few kgs lol.

I'm always bemused by powerlifters who think there's any such thing as an off season. Comps are pretty evenly spaced throughout the entire year, so there are only what I would call a series of build ups. I think what this guy means is lay off.

You assume everyone can qualify for every comp through out the year...

My last comp was April and did not intend to compete again until NOv. In that time my coach decided my FORM required improving especialy with squat so dropped the weight and worked in the higher rep range 8s-10s raw. I never squated until 18 months ago so need the reps to build leg strength and practise form. Also incorporated things like paused box squats and had a go at sumo deadlift etc, all with much lower weights than my max.

Call that what you want but to me is an off season, with no reall peaking phase, just continuous improvement. I had planned after 4.5 months of 'off season' for a 10 week cycle into Nov to build the weight back up and get into equipment and let my cns adapt etc etc. At last minute found out about this comp and that I could obtain a qualifying total, so decided what the heck.

So my point being, what ever my choice of words, that it was a little bit of a shock to go from sets of 8 raw to trying to 1 rep max in equipment in just 4 weeks. Maybe others have done it, but its a first for me.

My bad. I imagine you've lost some strength doing sets of 8-10 to work on form. Is your coach actually a powerlifting coach? Best way to improve is by competing, especially for a novice.

He is a competitive powerlifter of many years yes, and I competed 4 times last year and 3 times early this year.So needed a 'break'. First squat was 80kg raw last feb lol and now 145kg so getting there slowly. However once the weight starts getting heavier and body shape changes weaknesses in muscles groups and form start to show so there comes a time when you gota go back to basics. Also gave time for a few niggles to heal up etc.

It also helped to lean me up, I was a fat 90kg in Feb now just tubby lol, losing 2.5inches off the waist. My raw lifts have improved since last raw comp in feb, the equipped lifts however will suffer from lack of preperation thats all. I have one more weeks training in equipment, according to my logs I am at about the same point as I was about 4 weeks out in the last equipped cycle.
