Carn't help other than to say that I will find out nxt feb. Looking at results it seems, in general, to have a better standard of unequipped lifting.

yes, I was looking at the worlds and I a few KG off the qualifier for the un-equipped. As far as I am aware the IPF is all equipped.

You joining for 2008 then Iain?

Only one competition to date..S/W Divisional with BWLA.Enjoyed the day very much.Made to feel very welcome
Not enough experience to offer an opinion though.I intend to join BDFPA on the first of the new year These bodies are as near to my sporting philosophies than others on offer.I also enjoy an athletic atmosphere rather than a LOUD music hall one!...This is only my personal preference of course. Others I am sure have a different view.

Thats the one SO!

Paul, I have actually been a member of BDFPA for 2 years but havn't got round to lift in a comp for them yet! As Oldie mentioned I'll be doing Southern and South East divisonal in feb, to qualify for their Brits (Unequ). I think, as long as I make the lifts, I could also qualify for single lift champs too? Interested in squat and deadlift single lifts.

i lift bdfpa, ive lifted in one comp, and spectated at a couple

the comp i lifted in was very well organised, especially considering there was a strongman competition going on alongside

Martin Flett lifts BWLA and BDFPA, and has been to more national and international comps than most

I lift in both and both are great to lift in. Powerlifters are powerlifters the world over and tend to be very friendly and supportive whichever federation you lift in. Everyone respects everyone else for having the balls to put in the training and walk onto the stage.

In general terms (always a minefield!) the equipped standard is a bit higher in BWLA/IPF; but there is probably better and more frequent raw competition in BDFPA, and you can do raw Europeans/Worlds drug free but nothing above national level in BWLA.

In the 50+ Equipped Bench, I won the WDFPF world title in October with 185. In the IPF World Masters, that lift would have placed me 8th in the over 50s, which was won with 220.

The reason I do both is because I only bench and that's my way of getting me enough competitions (I don't like benching in a three-lift - just feels wrong). My advice to anyone would be to try both and if you get to the point where you have to choose one or the other, make the choice then.

Both equipped and unequipped, bdfpa does more unequipped, bwla more equipped. Nationally bdfpa has been great the singles british very efficient, internationally had fun. I have not lifted bawla for a few years but when i did the local events very good. some great lifters in both. Organisationally i find my local reps very helpful bawla and bdfpa, nationally lorraine at bawla has been brilliant to me, thats why i will affiliate my club to bwla. I will continue to lift bdfpa as i enjoy the single lifts but i like the camaradarie of powerlifting that is why i hate federation and people bashing. Both these federations do a great job of putting on events for us to have fun
