TickTock | ![]() | Axle Deadlift - help needed | 12-04-2012 @ 10:19 |
![]() Member 3491, 1197 posts SQ 247.5, BP 150, DL 280677.5 kgs @ 105kgs UnEq | Hi everybody, I am doing yorkshires strongest novice at the end of may. Attempted the axle deadlift Goethe first time last time and really struggled with weight when above 170. Managed to do 7 reps at this weight after attempting 190 Was using overhand grip with wraps any ideas on how to improve this? Would a mixed grip be better? Cheers in advance Ben

Gone and easily forgotten....... Member 331, 22298 posts SQ 185, BP 100, DL 230515.0 kgs @ 85kgs UnEq | are you wrapping your straps over and around, or are you wrapping them from your palm side back in towards your hand? the second option is usually best.

My asshole is not watertight. Member 2926, 6051 posts SQ 217.5, BP 107.5, DL 225550.0 kgs @ 86kgs UnEq | Hi Ben, You really shouldn't be struggling with your grip if you're using straps, unless they are really short ones. Personally, I prefer to use a double overhand grip with straps as it ensures my back/shoulders are in alignment. As Smalls says, you are wrapping the straps the opposite way around the bar to your hands aren't you?

![]() never too old Member 637, 760 posts | you sure your strapping correctly? make sure the straps go from your wrist, the opposite way around the bar to the line of your fingers. if that makes sense? like this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Uv_ibNvIoog

Just a thought Would you say that now after today..? A lot easier with the straps after a couple of times. We used them today without putting thumbs around the bar and it was much easier. It's a different pull to an Oly bar.

Rather than the ambiguity of palm side etc, the straps should go between you and the bar and wrap around underneath and away from you. In other words they should be going the opposite way round the bar to your hands starting at the wrist. This provides reverse torque as your thumb does with a hook grip.

Strengthshop Iron mind are £18 - is this normal sort of price? Zuluglove. Very long, wide, strong and well priced. (I wouldn't bother with the ones with rubber strips, they wear away and are not needed anyway))
