They say that every cloud has a silver lining and I was forced to accept a particularly black cloud today, happily it did have a silver lining. Take the small wins when you can and delight in them.

A very simple four

Yxxxx
xxxxx
YGxxY

A very obvious answer presented itself and was correct

A slow five

YYxxx
xYxYx
xxxxx
xGYYY

The fourth was a long time coming and disappointed, but it did make the fifth a bit quicker

Yesterday I was diagnosed with severe sleep apnea, "enjoying" up to fifty interruptions in breathing per hour. I was kitted out with mask and air compressor and enjoyed the best night's sleep I can remember. I have no idea which unsung hero, created, designed and built this stuff but well played that man. Very well played indeed.

Wow, that does sound severe. Glad you now have a powerful countermeasure.

Thank you. The annoying bit is that there were no symptoms. With hindsight there were some small signs but nothing that could not be explained away quite easily.

A quick but unusual four

YxxxG
xxGYG
YGGxG

Went for it after the first entry. The third guess couldn't have been right as it omitted one letter that I knew to be correct but it did prove to be very informative.

Tempted to punch myself in the face for the blunder and also to let myself off because of the result. Maybe just a slap then :-)

Good to get that seen to as sleep apnea is a silent killer. did you get any rebound REM? intense dreams etc? (dear Steve Jobs, can you make your phone autocorrect use the œ ligature spelling for this “apnœa” not the American abomination)

Not as yet. I didn't know this was a possibility.

To be honest I rarely dream, or rarely remember, but when I did, I totally wasted them. I used to dream that I had changed a setscrew and an o-ring part number for the part number of a different setscrew and o-ring. So dull and dismal and in a dream you can do literally anything and I dreamt of stuff I did for a living. I could have been enjoying a bacon sandwich while receiving much deserved breast relief from Nigella Lawson, but oh no, changing part numbers won the day. Disgraceful.
