Wednesday, 16th June, start 1600

Last week there was no bench, so this week I tried empty bar, five sets of ten and they weren't too bad at all. Shoulder still a bit suspect but it did not ache. My hips did though, when in a powerlifting approved bench position, but the Lord Harry did they ache. Very odd in my view. I will stretch for a week and see what difference it makes

Seated pully rows

No 15 x 10
No 15 x 10
No 15 x 10
No 15 x 10
No 15 x 10

Seated pully shrugs

No 20 x 10
No 20 x 10
No 20 x 10
No 20 x 10
No 20 x 10

Both these felt surprisingly easy tonight. Again, odd

Sclepped along to Adders today to guide young Tess through the minefield of bench press. Glynne and Turner were present which is always entertaining. I look forward to the day when food will be available in the local hostelry once more. On my return I dined on bacon barms, now it's the couch, an occasional belch and dreams of tomorrow's squats.

On the way home I tuned into Times radio and listened to a woman from fullfact.org who is in the business of checking claims made by random nutters and then passed along as true by people who wish it was true.

The latest was the incident that occured to Christian Erikksen the other day during a football match. It was soon doing the rounds that this had been caused by the covid vaccine and an Italian radio staion had heard it off the chairman of the club he played for. Despite both the radio station and the chairman saying that this had never happened it was touted far and wide as fact.

She has had a seriously busy time of late but it was most interesting to listen to.

How I miss the old days of libraries where one half was labelled "fiction" and the other "non-fiction". The interweb is a good thing in many ways but not so in others.

Monday, 21st June, start 16:00

Squat, raw, boots and sleeves on

20 x 5
20 x 5
20 x 5
20 x 5
20 x 5
20 x 5
60 x 5
80 x 5
95 x 5
110 x 5
125 x 5
belt on
140 x 5
155 x 5
belt off
165 x 1

Not the best of days today, everything was a bit rocky and rolly. Not much sign of any fluency either, depth has been better too. I don't know what made we think of the belt so late in the session, probably just clutching at a straw, and it didn't work out too well either. It made the 140 and 155 awkward. The intention had always been to get this far but without the belt, then to do a single with 165 and then five at 170. There had been a question mark over that pretty much from the word go. So I remove the belt, do a single with 165 and decide then to either continue as planned or to halt it then and there. The 165 was reasonable enough but it lacked depth (not that big a deal) and it lacked fluency (which is a very big deal). Had a quick chat with Handsome Jeff and neither of us can see any reason to carry on, but both of us can see a reason to knock it on the head. Hopefully by next week things will be better.

Had the pleaseure of seeing the good Doctor arrive as we were leaving. A quick five minute chat wasn't much but it was very welcome.

Here's a new one on me.

A guy on the radio today claimed that he wasn't a Nimby, he was a Banana - build absolutely nothing anywhere near anyone

A little bit of a breakthrough on bench today, the hips were nowhere near as bad as last week, the movements were all full range and I actually used some weight. The weight was heavy enough and the number of sets was enough as well. Just starting to ache at the end. Not much to write home about but a lot better than last week, that in itself was enough to justify swinging back the chippy on the way home.
