Monday, 31st May, start 15:30. Bank holiday

Arrived to find only Mack present, the car said 21 degrees which is very pleasant to stand and chat. Training however is quite another matter

20 x 5
20 x 5
20 x 5

80 x 5
95 x 5
110 x 5
125 x 5
140 x 5

140 x 5

As the 160 top set was all out last week the idea (courtesy of Phil the Behemoth) was to do three sets at around 85 - 90% of last weeks top weight and to press on next week. I like the sound of that. I particularly liked the sound of it as I was squatting in a pool of my own sweat today. Big thanks to Mack who stayed behind to spot and encourage

A text came through this morning, my dentist is doing routine check ups again and it's my turn, I rang for an appointment - nothing available in June but they can squeeze me in during the first week of July

Tescos, early this morning, there is a very friendly chap who works in the bakery who I exchange a few words with every week.

"How's this weather suiting you?" I asked

He shook his head ruefully "Fed up of it now" said he.

Should he ever have to take a "Britishness" test he will pass with flying colours. I like him a little bit more now. Excellent answer.

Very hot now and quite a few in. Heard reports that DrRick had been seen and was, and I quote "looking good". Not having seen the man for myself I can neither confirm nor deny this. But I can believe it. Not the worst night ever, really quite enjoyed it.

I have had a look and the British weather seems to be in the Mid-20s. What is the cut-off between "warm" and "too damn hot"? Edit: 21 degrees is too warm to train in?

Glynn is a kind and generous man, who every time he sees me claims I'm looking better than the last. But it important to remember that he is insane, and Turner is both blind and significantly more insane.

All of which were taken into account, I simply had nothing to argue with. His comments were tempered with what I had read in your log

Whether it is too warm to train or not is down to individual taste. But the Met office will have strict definitions of where warm ends and very warm begins and how hot it has to be before it gets hot and then onto very hot etc.

Similarly with wind, still air, zephyr, light breeze, breeze, fresh breeze and strong breeze with all have speed bands attributed to them before moving on to windy, storms, gales, whole gales and hurricanes. They are rather precise like that.

I recall one very hot summer when they constantly said that the next day would continue to be "very warm" when everyone in the country thought it to be "hot" or "too hot"

The one that has always confused me is "higher ground" as in "there may be snow on higher ground" there has to be a height at which "higher ground" starts but so far this has eluded me.

Personally I find training in warm weather disagreeable, but it does add to the effect of burning martyr, which I do take a certain perserse pleasure in.

I, too, have been unsuccessful in a quest to find the varying definitions of "warm", "hot" "cool", "mild" etc. I often use accuweather, which I find to be very accurate. It does, however, list Cyprus as "Nice" at 24 degrees at one point in time, yet London only gets "plenty of Sun" on the one day it's not raining this year. The next month is either cloudy, rain, or thunderstorms. Damn, I miss the rain.

I don't. For reasons never fully explained it adversely affects my fuel economy. A round trip to the gym will show figures of 59 / 60 ish in damp, cooler weather and 66 / 67 in warmer, drier weather. Plus the car stays cleaner and requies fewer washes in warmer, drier weather.

I am old, I have seen enough rain. Whereas my quota of sunny days is still some way off I feel.

On arrival at the chippy yesterday I was saddened to discover it was closed due to NHS track and trace. Someone who works there has tested postive and they have been commanded to close. Maybe next week ?

On the plus side Bob Geldork made excellent use of the word "maladroit" on Andrew Marr this morning.

Sad when that is considered a plus, isn't it ?

Cooler air is more dense than warmer air and and therefore contains more oxygen molecules than warm air does for a given volume.

So if you can get cooler air into your engine, your car will be able to mix more fuel with that air, making more power.

More power = Less efficiency

I would have to disagree with the final part. He would have to drive with lower revs to get the same power, thus improving fuel economy, unless the MAF sensor is faulty.

My mother used to use a magnifying glass in her later years. She used it for newspapers as her eyesight wasn't the best. I still have it and since I have needed reading glasses I have kept it in the kitchen.

The reason for this is that I usually leave my reading glasses in the front room, as this is where I do most reading. If I have to reading cooking instructions or how many times to turn fish fingers, it is easier to reach for the glass rather than wander off into another room for a different set of bins.

Today, I required the glass for the finer points of Tesco's finest pork sausages. But could I find it ? I could not. I checked the usual places and there was no sign. So the sausages were carried into the other room, the glasses worn, the information gathered, (220 degrees for 25 minutes, thank you for asking), the glasses removed and the sausages cooked.

Some time later I went to get the milk from the fridge and what greeted me ? You've guessed it - a chuffin' magnifying glass.

IN THE PHUCKIN' FRIDGE !!!

Having eliminated mother's ghost having a giraffe. It must have been me. I'm losing it.
