Just tried to book a vaccination on the government website and typically the f**king thing doesn't work. It let's you pick a location, tells to to pick a day - from a choice of one, tells you there are no slots that day and that's it. No alternate dates - ever. f**king nonsense

Tried phoning to get a slot at the Reebok as that is the only place I can find.
"There are none" they said
"Not ever?" I asked
"No, just in this particular slot that has been released"
"When is the next slot released?"
"No idea"
"How many slots will be in that"
"No idea"
"So your advice would be?"
"Just keep trying"

Way to encourage people

This is so odd. I got a phone call from my GP to offer me a slot. I thought that was the standard procedure; it was for the rest of my family, scattered around the country.

I would suspect that it would depend on how "at risk" you are considered to be.

As per the instructions I tried again this morning and now have successfully booked two appointments at the reebok. One a week tomorrow and one on Sir Arthur's birthday.

The system worked a whole lot better this time around, but then again it actually had something to offer this time :-)

I am relatively new to the smart phone. It has a stopwatch on it, which I rarely use as I don't have the need to time many things.

Sometime ago I started it going and forgot it and about a week later found it still running.

Its usual format is six digits - minutes, seconds, tenths and then hundreths of seconds.
That format would allow it to go to one hour, and at the hour mark the figures change size and a new digit appears at the front to record the hours.

When I rediscovered the clock still running it was on the hunderd and seventy odd hour mark, this rather surprised me as thought it would have reset at some point, maybe at 9 hours 59 minutes and 59.99 seconds. But no, having introduced the second digit for the hours that allowed to go to just under the one hundred hours.

So would it reset then. No, it has introduced a third hour digit which allows it to go to just under a thousand hours.

Now a thousand hours takes just under six weeks. So Six weeks ago I started it. Just before ten this morning I tuned it to see 999:59:59.99 appear, obviously that last digit was going faster than the eye could cope with and the penultimate one was bobbing on a bit, but you take my point.

Would it reset back to zero and continue on from there ? Or would it add yet another digit and move onto a thousand ?

It moved onto a thousand.

Ten thousand hours would be the next step, but that is almost sixty weeks, I am training myself to not bother about that. Life really is too short for some things

I dunno. I would hope your life is long enough to contain at least the 100 000 hour milestone. Another million might be a tad optimistic, I admit.

I wasn't talking literally, it was more the worthiness of the project. I have to admit that when I look at the stopwatch now as see its six stationary zeroes looking back it me, it gently reminds me of a dog wanting to be taken for a walk

I find them very easy to resist and I don't love them, not by a long chalk. They are much the same as people, a few are wonderful but most are a nuscience. As with people, the better behaved they are the more I like them.

Today, I stumbled across a new word: klatch - an informal gathering where coffee is served.

Weight as of ten minutes ago 136.3 kgs, a shade over 300 lbs or just about 21.5 stones. I seemed to have gained. Not training and celibacy is fattening it would appear.

Last night I had the chance to call at he same chippy I went to after Physio last week, I ordered fish and chips. I paused and enquired about the peas.

"Are they mushy ?" I asked
"They are" was they reply
"Could they be mushier ?" I enquired
"They could not" I was assured.

That settled it. f**king lovely.

In the village of Adlington, in the county of Lancashire in the North West of England, there is a small, backstreet barbell club called unsurprisingly Adlington Barbell Club.
Today, it took delivery of an Eleiko powerlifting bar that was assembled by you.
We are currently in a Covid-19 lockdown in the UK, but if the vaccine rollout continues as planned we should be allowed to re-open the gym in the second week of April.
As you can imagine we are counting off the days, now even more so as on that day we will get to use the bar assembled by you.

It is a lovely, lovely thing of great beauty.

This is but a brief note to tell you of the joy and appreciation that your bar has brought to a small village many miles away. Do you ever stop to think of the pleasure that you bring to so many people around the globe by assembling these wonderful bars ?
You really should, because you do.
You may take my word for that. The bar will be known as "Susanne's bar"
With many thanks and best wishes

We took delivery of a new PL bar yesterday. It was unwrapped and secreted inside all the wrapping was a card which contained a photograph of, and a hand-written message from, the person who assembled it. It also contained an email address.
In my efforts to be a better person I emailed the lass who had assembled the bar (see above)
I have just discovered her reply. To say she was delighted would be an understatement. Lord only knows how many bars she has made, but I bet she doesn't get to know where many of them end up. Well she does this one.

Random acts of kindness gentle readers. It's the future.

Trouble is it will be six weeks or more before I get to use it. Had I room in the house I would have left it here and stroked it. It really is a beautiful thing.
