I answered and it was a chap I used to work with who was also a friend. He retired at Christmas and just wanted to shoot the breeze for a while. Retirement is not suited to lockdown but he looking forward with high hopes. During the call itself I to talk in any part of the front room and could even go into the kitchen and continue the conversation. There was a time when the kitchen was a deadspot for my previous provider and the front room varied with proximity to the kitchen, so much so that I had to hug the outside wall to get some sort of signal and that was broken and cracked most of the time. Not all providers are equal it would seem. A change of provider has proven most fortuitous. Today is a happy day. | ||

It illustrates rather well just how surprising it is that any of this works at all, let alone as well as it does. It's mildly ridiculous that I can get data 300 times quicker via my cellphone's national radio network than I could through a wired dial-up modem back in the day. | ||

My fibre to the cabinet connection is 57mbps. My mobile connection at home via 4g is usually between 115 and 140mbs. It's a brave new world! | ||

Met up with Jeff and Gav and some measuring was done. I then had a socially distanced conversation with the Handsome one on the car park. I was protected against the weather but phuck me it was cold. The tenperature is rarely a problem but the wind, well that's another story | ||

I was fourteen at the time, maths questions changed from "if an eight stone man walks a mile at five miles per hour" to if a fifty kilo man walks two kilometres at eight kilometres per hour". Trivial matter that, what really mattered was the money, twenty shillings to the pound and twelve pennies to the shilling disappeared taking the threepenny bit (now confined to rhyming slang) the tanner, the bob and the half crown with it. Terms of endearment all, never to be replaced. The cash was obviously, with one hundred new pence. How very, very dull, how "just the same as every other f**king country in the world". A sad day in my view | ||

On Monday I did front kettlebell squats, whith the emphasis on depth and a twenty kilo 'bell. Three sets of twelve at eight o'clock, three more at ten, three more at twelve and the last three at two. The intention is to do this on Monday, Friday and then Wednesday. I'll keep you posted | ||
