Today was no different and I returned at twelve and just as I flipped the kettle on there was a knock at the door. T'was the postman with three parcels and impeccable timing. Some weeks ago I began reading John Gwynne's "the faithful and the fallen" series. It consists of four books and is much in the vein of "game of thrones" I have enjoyed them immensely and halfway through the last one I googled the author and discovered that he has written up a follow up trilogy called "of blood and bone". It was these that the postman delivered earlier. As I have a mere forty pages to go in the last book his timing was impeccable in more ways that one. Also some weeks back I discovered that Tesco had Richard Osman's "Thursday murder club" on offer and I purchased that too. So the question is which to read first ? I suspect that the murder club will be next as it is quite short and shouldn't take long, then it will be back to the Banished Lands once more. It isn't clear why I have found it so much easier to find time to read during these last few months but working from home is the only obvious one but I do hope to continue it regardless | ||

I then cooked steak and eggs and enjoyed it very much, as I did so it occured to me that owing to the time this was late for breakfast and yet early for lunch. It could therefore be classed as "brunch". Should this be the case I will go on the record that this is the first timed I have ever "brunched", at least to the best of my knowledge it is. I watched pointless and then usually I tune in to the six o'clock news but I just couldn't face it tonight. I channel hopped for a spell and discovered that in the twelve month prior to lockdown 334,000 people passed their deiving test at the first attempt, that's out of 1.6 million attempts, so roughly one in five. I am partial to a fray bentos pie (that's named after a port in southern Uruguay you know) but they take thirty minutes in the oven to bake, plus ten minutes to get it up to temperature in the first place. Last Thursday I spotted a fray bentos steak and kidney pudding, you can microwave those in three minutes, stand for another minute and then shovel it in. Not bad either, certainly as good as the pies and that's not counting saving the planet. Plus I am quite the fan of suet. I also sent an email to a man who I have never met nor communicated with in any way. In it I mentioned the statue at junction four on the M65, the Halsall Navvy and the significance thereof, Wallace Hartley who was the bandleader on the Titanic and a couple of other things. All this in a couple of paragraphs. I wonder if he will reply. I reckon he will. | ||

I haven't had a Fray Bentos pie since I was a child, do they still come in a tin? Who is the mystery recipient of your email? My interest has been piqued by your teasing update!! I too miss the gym, hopefully we will be back there soon!!! | ||

If you travel up the A666 you will meet the M65 at J4. On this roundabout is a huge statue of a man on a stone table carving a motto in the side with a chisal and a mallet. One Sunday before Aaron was a motorist and before the foolishness that his golf had led him from the one true path I gave him a lift to Colne and we saw the aforementioned statue. I was hugely impressed and discovered that it was created by one Thompson Dagnall, sculptor of this parish, so I emailed him to tell him of the heart warming effect his statue had had on me. He seemed extremely pleased that I had taken the trouble to tell him so. I have i believe mentioned in here already that I have recently completed "the faithful and the fallen" quartet by John Gwynne. I dashed off an email to that very man to thank him for the many hours of enjoyment he had given. It seemed only right and proper that I should do so. As handsome Fred used to say, one should give bouquets to the living. | ||
