Weight last night 130.5 kilos, 287 pounds, 20.5 stones. Things appear to be quite constant

For the record this is 0.8 of a kilo below my weight at my best ever performance in Oldham back in 2007.

That was squat 322.5, bench 180 deadlift 282.5, total 785.
The bad news is that I only got seven lifts in, bench as always was the weakest link as I only got my opener in. Had things gone to plan I would have got the total record too.
What I can'r remember is whether or not 180 was my opening weight or my opening lift ? Did I fail it first and get it later ? I do remember there being tremendous pressure on that lift as without it there would have been no total and without that the 322.5 squat would not count a record. Nor can I remember my first two deadlifts. The squat however I can remember every second and that is what really matters :-)

Huge Kudos to Aaron Lohan who found these results somewhere in the bowels of Sugden. Well played that man.

Yes, I echo that, thanks to Sugden my 200 bench will appear in the rankings. I know it's only 2.5 more than currently appears, but it's a bit like Roger Bannister running the mile in 4 minutes 0.5 seconds. There's not much difference, but the difference is everything.

Monday, 24th August, start 16:00

Bench, very raw
20 x 10
20 x 10
20 x 10
40 x 5
50 x 5
60 x 5
70 x 5
80 x 5
85 x 5
85 x 5
85 x 5
85 x 5
85 x 5
These went really rather well tonight, better than expected. Even when young Aaron joined in and we had to drop the racks a peg making them a shade lower than ideal, that didn't make a difference and it takes very little usually for something to make a difference on bench. It's almost like I just might be getting a little bit stronger.

Tricep pushdown
50 x 10
60 x 10
70 x 10
75 x 10
80 x 10
80 x 10
80 x 10
The full stack on this is 75 so I had to add a little to make it 80, so that was a new weight for me. I was very glad when I was done with these.

Aaron had kindly noted the attempts on the 322.5 squat day and for the record they were -
Squat - 290 / 310 / 322.5
Bench - 180 / 190 fail / 190 fail
Dead - 260 / 275 / 282.5
I remembered the squats like they were yesterday, the bench I was fairly certain that I only got the opener in but didn't remember what it was, and the third dead was 282.5 but I had no idea what the first two were.

Weightlifters a go-go tonight, couldn't shift for them but that's no bad thing. Finish just in time to hear the six o'clock news on radio 4. Happy !

Good point, well made and illustrated with a very fine example.

You realize that I will now have to find out what the point something was on Bannister's record. I have an inkling that it was 3:59:6, but I haven't inkled for some time and it's accuracy may need some adjustment.

I'll be back

You are correct, I must have been getting confused between 0.6 and 0.6 short of four minutes. Well that's my excuse

Wednesday, 26th August, start 16:00

On my way to the gym I pass by a large car park which is a park and ride place for trips to Manchester. Pre-covid it was always pretty much full, since I started working from home it has been empty save for the very odd day when there was one car there. Well today there was two. I almost cheered.

Deadlift, very raw, no belt, pumps on
60 x 5
60 x 5
60 x 5
60 x 5
70 x 3
80 x 3
90 x 3
100 x 3
110 x 3
120 x 3
130 x 3
140 x 3
150 x 3
160 x 3
170 x 3
All pretty good though I say so myself, hands held up well, though I wasn't using the Texas bar, the last set was the best one of the lot. Physio tomorrow, not much needs doing but it will be good to see them again.

He is very well thank you. He is coping with all the foolishness and adhering exactly to the rules as one would expect.

If something is available it becomes a problem whether to take it or leave it, if something is unavailable, well, that isn't a problem any more is it ? It's a fact.

I recall a course I went on many years ago on stress and we had to give an example of when we were last stressed. I told the story of me trying to buy a copy of the racing post on Cheltenham Gold Cup day, my usual newsagent had none (the delivery was very late) and it was the same story at every newsagent along the way.

I displayed all the signs of being stressed, driving a bit faster, being less polite, a quick about turn when denied yet again. When asked what I did when I was denied a copy by the last newsagent I informed them as I simply calmed down.

The excitement was due to the tempting fact that I might just get one at the next stop, but when all hope was gone, there was nothing left but to calm down. Rather like running for a train that is leaving, when it becomes clear that you cannot catch it, there isn't any point to run any further. Head for the buffet for a cup of tea and a sandwich is my advice. They seemed to think that this was a good thing.

Felt a bit creaky from the word go today but we can but try, I brought my secret weapon into play and took handoffs for all sets at the top weight. That never does any harm. All hard but not too hard, got through it alright though, that's the main thing. Two days off now and squats on Monday. Hurrah !
