Wednesday, 11th March, start 16:00

Shortly after lunch my hip and back started to ache for no apparent reason, because of this I decided to ditch the deadlifts and concentrate on Hack squats. I had severe doubts about these as well but if I have learned nothing in the last forty years I have learned that you have to give it a go. Suck it and see for want of a better phrase.

Hack squats. Knee sleeves are worn
40 x 5
50 x 5
60 x 5
70 x 5
80 x 5
90 x 5
100 x 5
110 x 5
120 x 5
130 x 5
140 x 5
150 x 5
160 x 5
170 x 5
180 x 5
190 x 5
200 x 5
Difficult to describe, but the heavier it got and the better the back felt. It still doesn't feel right but it did improve as we progressed. The hip gave no trouble at all. Over the last few times I have stopped at 180 but the 180 tonight was really fine so I carried on, the 190 wasn't too bad at all but the 200 was heavy enough.

Now we have to see what tomorrow brings

Not feeling too bad this morning. Legs are sore obviously and will get more sore as the day goes on, but that is a pleasant soreness. The unpleasant kind is not too bad at all.

Weighed in at 136.3 last night which is 300 lbs in old money.

I also have had cause to look up the price of a twenty pack of benson and hedges, as on the 30th of this month it is forty years since I quit smoking. More on this nearer that date.

Tricep pushdown
30 x 10
35 x 10
40 x 10
45 x 10
50 x 10
55 x 10
60 x 10
65 x 10
70 x 10
75 x 10

Things seem to be improving, last week I had to end these at 50 x 10 with a discomfort factor of 10, and this week I made it to 75 x 10 with a discomfort factor of 4.

Gently does it

This was much better than last week, the elbow held up well throughout so I celebrated with a couple of extra sets, just began to feel it on set five. Big improvement

Wednesday 19th March, start 16:00

Another relatively quiet night.

Hack squats, knee sleeves on
40 x 5
50 x 5
60 x 5
70 x 5
80 x 5
90 x 5
100 x 5
110 x 5
120 x 5
130 x 5
140 x 5
150 x 5
160 x 5
170 x 5
180 x 5
190 x 5
200 x 5

The top set was easier than last week, noticeably so, hip fine, everything fine. Of course the real test is yet to come.
Next week it is the last Wednesday of the month so Physio day. I will probably deadlift for that one, but then again I may not. Whichever it is, things do seem to be looking up

I date I will never forget, seven years since the great man died.

As is my custom, tonight a glass will be charged, raised and I will drink to his memory, the toast will be -

"Alan Fairclough, steel true, blade straight", I was honoured to know him

He will always be remembered. I thought it was funny on Wednesday when we mentioned Alan and his anniversary coming up, and Mack opined that he was glad Alan wasn't around at this particular moment in time as he would have had a bollocking off him for the way he'd snatched. This from a man who never met Alan, suggests we are keeping him memory (and reputation) alive and well in the club Happy

Very true. I never realized that even though I heard him say it.

Had to arrange to have the locks changed at the gym because we got wind of someone offering anyone whose gym was shut to come to Adders and train with him.

Don't think so.

New locks fitted.

Do you have any exercise plans for home, e.g. press-ups?

Brilliant.
It would be so easy for small independent gyms to have ‘lock ins’. Doing the right thing is sometimes the hardest thing. Good skills Happy

No. I have made plans in the past and they never came to fruition. I am a lazy man, it is no coincidence that there isn't a bed in the gym

Unhappy

There would only ever be one winner in that contest

The 30th of this month marks 40 years since I gave up smoking.

The price of a packet of twenty Bensons back then was 63p and the budget put them to 67p. As a 30 a day man that would have put me at just over a pound per day.

Camel break back straw as they almost never say.

Interestingly I enquired the price of the same cigarettes on my last visit to tesco and they are £12.55, which is as near as dammit 63p EACH

Who-ever would have thought that ?

The Hell that is working from home begins today. Enforced by the company I have had to bring monitors, keyboard, headset, mouse and several folders of design changes home last night.

What you don't realize in an office environment but becomes very apparent in the small, cluttered hovel I call home is just how big this stuff is.

Pete just lost his kitchen.

This is going to be truly horrible
