"What ?" I hear you ask, "What in the wide, wide world of sport is a dirty hand row ?"

Firstly it is almost certainly called something else but I don't know what.

Some time ago young Ian purchased two pieces of steel tube, they are of different lengths and are hinged together, the shorter one is male and can be inserted into the holes of a couple of twenty five kilo plates that have been laid on their side specifically for that purpose. The longer one is female and can have the end of an olympic bar inserted into it. Knowing Ju-jitsu guy would be along soon and would require to squat, I left the Eleiko on the squat racks and used the texas power bar. The grip is slightly awkward as one hand has to go at the very top touching the inside of the collar and the other has to go just below it. I found it comfortable to alternate which hand went on top. It was a pleasant enough movement spoiled only by the alarming amount of s**te that was to be found around the collars of the bar. As the central portion of the bar is both dry and clean, this was quite a surprise, plus as we only have cold water at the club washing them afterwards was no barrel of laughs.

The back has been more than a little creaky after Wednesday's exertions but I have an extra physio booked for Thursday. Quite busy tonight, good atmosphere all round.

This was enough too tonight, when I consider these at work they all look easy enough and I am often tempted to raise things a little more than I should. Fortunately I now have just enough sense to ignore that foolishness. This was enough tonight.

On the plus side, Adders is famous for its foolish conversations, and tonight it excelled itself. Mack had just finished a tale of his about his adventure while very drunk with an homosexual policeman whilst on holiday. The tale finished with the line, "I need to return home and think about what I have done" I haven't laughed that hard for some considerable time.

One or two twinges and aches which have been noted and will be reported during my emergency physio tomorrow. One or two isolated aches right now some two hours later but nothing to lose sleep over. One good thing to come from all this is that due to the injury I have got my line pretty much bang on, which holds some promise for when the healing is complete. Physio tomorrow. I'll be in touch

Thursday

Emergency Physio, the back is merely blocked and almost certainly caused by the hip. The hip is down to the tendon. I have stretches to do and squats to avoid, deadlifts can continue. Quite a long and brutal session tonight and he has acquired a new interferential machine which was a shock to the system. Feel all the better for it though. Check back in a fortnight

Hope the issue settles down.

Do you ever consider dabbling with other lifts/exercises, e.g. trap bar deads, overhead press...? You are very much in powerlifter mode.

Not front squats, obviously Wink Grin

Trap bar deads I don't really see much point in. If I were a younger man I would do a larger variety of exercises although the three powerlifts would still be the bread and butter of it all.

Most of my inflexibility in attribute is due to my age and my inflexibility in body. I work very much on the old dog - new tricks basis, and at my age, with the aforementioned inflexibility I fear injury could be caused by new tricks.

I would advise anyone to take the required steps to avoid ending up in this position. It's too late for me now but by all means save yourself

In the presence of Weightlifters I am deeply critical of front squats. However as there are none listening right now I can say, for the record, that they are an excellent assistance exercise and I would not try to talk anyone out of doing them.

There is one caveat to that and I would insist that they should be done properly with the bar fully racked in the clean position. None of this "arms folded" nonsense.

It is because (see inflexibility in previous post) I cannot do this in the proper racked position and would have to resort to "arms folded" that I avoid them.

If I could, I would as far as front squats are concerned

Traffic chaos tonight, so I had to take the scenic route which is somewhat longer. After the bruising session at Cosgrove's last night, the back has been a shade tender, so not much tonight.

T bar rows,
20 x 10
20 x 10
30 x 10
30 x 10
40 x 10
40 x 10
50 x 10
50 x 10
60 x 10
60 x 10
70 x 10
70 x 10
The chest is supported on these so no pressure on the lower back at all. On the plus side carrying bags between Tesco's and the car and the car and home did feel rather easier than of late.
Ju-jitsu guy regaled us with tales of his days in the military and the devastation that can occur when Monkeys get into your camp. Totes Hilairs I believe is a suitable expression.
Apparently a bright torch is your best friend when tackling monkeys. That little fact has been tucked away for hopefully never.

Glad to hear the back is on the mend.

Why do you carry the bags from Tesco to your car? I'm quite shocked actually. I thought someone as lazy as you would take the trolley to your car with the bags in, like I and most others seem to do. What's going on?

I work on the theory that the closer you park to the shop doors the more likely you are to get your car t**tted by some moron and the farther from the doors you are the less likely this is as the very dim are also very lazy and dislike walking what they consider to be too far.

I generally have only two bags of shopping and therefore have two options -

Option the first
Place bags in trolley and push trolley to car, remove bags and push trolley back to the little covered trolley park (which is about half way between the shop doors and the car).
Then walk back to the car.

Option the second
Place bags in trolley, push trolley to little covered trolley park, remove bags and carry the rest of the way to the car.

Under normal conditions I consider option the second to be the preferred option, but under certain conditions, such as buying something very heavy or awkward, I can and would revert to option the first.

Very cold today, all tyre pressures were down one pound, (they were all up one pound last week) so amendments were made.

Away to Adders were Ian Mac, Glynn, Turner and young Tess were all present, than afterwards all bar Ian Mac retired to the Spinners for food and some foolish talk.

As always a range of topics were covered but Glynn shared one of a time he was working in Malta. By all accounts Malta is a relaxed place and has an higher than average percentage of cross dressers and folk of that ilk.

One night he was out on the piss with some mates when one of them, who was very drunk, "copped off" with a "lady" of dubious looks who was actually a man. Being a gentleman Glynn told the fellow of his misjudgement and the fellow was having none of it. Certainly she wasn't the best looking women he had ever seen but he was certain she was a woman. And with that they went their separate ways.

An hour or so later they met up again and this time the chap was alone. He greeted Glynn and confirmed that what he had told him had been true.
"what gave it away?" asked Glynn "the Adam's apple or the fact that her hands were larger than mine?"

"No" said the man, "it was during the discussion about fitting a V8 engine into a transit van and she knew by heart the part number of the reinforced engine mounts that would be required, that's what gave it away, after that the rest just fell into place."
