Scenario:

Had a pull up bar sat in my house for a year
https://www.gravityfitness.co.uk/collections/all/products/gravity-f...

Requirement is 14mm drill bit.

Going in to brick.

I have dewalt 14mm masonry drill bit.

Trial hole is too big.

But...
Why is the masonry drill head wider than the actual main body diameter? Is it me or have I missed something in life? Did a 2cm deep trial hole and too wide for the plugs.

Were the plugs and bolts supplied in the kit?

Usually supplied plugs in kits are the wankiest cheapest imaginable I throw them away and use decent ones.

The larger the drill bit the slower you should go (RPM) its very easy to go sideways and make a big hole, make sure the drill is at right angles to the wall.

I like to blow any dust from the hole and put a blob of silicone in the hole then put the plug in.

You could try the old method of making a timber plug to fit the hole

Everyone likes a big flange.

I always offer the back of the drill bit up against the plug tip. If they look the same happy days. When the screw goes in the theory is the plug expands to the same size as the drill tip.

Silicone is a good shout. I will have to give that a try.
I guess it might well have been slightly off angle.
I am at a height deficit, max stretch to aim for good angle.
Frame is bloody big.

Well Frodo, I am not actually sure.
To be fair, I think it feels quite strong but don't actually expect it to last a year.

In most things in life, I am rather engineering minded but I really bought this on a whim from first lockdown.

Might have to flog it and reconsider a scaffold pole and brackets.

Not sure about video but guaranteed comedy pictures at end.

Yeah. I am going to remeasure these tomorrow. Might jam my finger in just to see if it fits.

What lube do you recommend for finger in a brick?

Alongside "measure twice, cut once" this should be at the forefront of your thinking whenever you are doing DIY.

Also, if you're a bigger guy do not use the plugs/bolts supplied with the frame. Buy some solid anchor bolts or this story definitely ends with a funny (and mildly painful) accident.
