Saturday Bench - Strength Test

A day late, waited till the evening to go to the garage, so awful was the weather. Probably the last session of the year. This training block has been geared to getting back to 110 before Christmas. Not a training session per se, just see if 110 is there.

Bar for 10 x 3 sets
40 for 6
50 for 5
60 for 4
70 for 3
80 for 2
90 for 1
100 for 1
110 for 1
Finish

There may have been another couple of kilos there, but it was important to try for my target and, if I got it, finish on a positive lift. Operation on Monday, two or three weeks off afterwards, assuming all goes well, hopefully I'm still 100+ next time.

Had my op Monday, recovered from anaesthetic Tuesday, recovered from travel and a bit of discomfort Wednesday, feeling fine today, so why not train?

Thursday Bench - Thin Red Band. Wanted 100

Bar for 10 x 3 sets
Band on
40 for 6
50 for 5
60 for 4
70 for 3
80 for 2
90 for 1
100 - fail
Finish

What can I say? 90 was easy, had to go to the loo, came back and 'it' just wasn't there, whatever 'it' is. 100 buried me, not only that but I was suddenly drained of energy. But got a session in within 72 hours of an op, ready to move forward in 2026. Just pleased I could train, really.

Target competition is the Scottish Bench on 23rd May. Records will fall...

Monday Bench

The plan was a 1 to 10 to 1 pyramid with 60. A week to the hour after the op.

Started late, ran out of time, energy was beginning to wane, might have got it, might not, try again next time.

Wednesday Bench

A day early, gives me a day off for Christmas. Thin red band, 100 buried me last Thursday, so let's try it again.

100 for 1 - flew up!

I had planned down sets, but after the 100 all the desire, energy and strength left me, so I left it there. Still, ticking over...

I only got to the top of the pyramid on each of the last two attempts. Take Three...

Success. Battling the cold (temperature, not health), never really warmed up, 60 never felt so heavy, but it got done. I was doing this with 80 not so long ago...

Next pyramid session 65. And so we build...

Tuesday Bench

Last one of the year. Wanted to get the same 110 I managed before the operation a fortnight ago.

Trained very late for me, about 7.00 pm. I lay awake all night with a racing brain, couldn't get out of bed at a normal time, finally emerged at 2 in the afternoon. I know...

I had planned down sets, but I got what I wanted, it was like an ice box, it was late, and the will to continue left me. Maybe there was a tad more, but I didn't want to end the year with a fail.

The plan is to get past 120 by the end of February, then decide whether I'm going to compete equipped or raw in May. There are arguments in favour of each, but I can only do one. Got some great news yesterday. Blood pressure down to 132/76 from 200+/100+. It's the blood pressure meds that have ruined my lifting year. Hopefully 2026 will be better?

Next time I train, I'll officially be M4! Whoda thought?

Happy new year when it comes, everyone. An especially happy one to the ones who sometimes leave a comment and keep an old man company.

Great effort keeping going MF... M4 well thats just astounding I remember looking at M1 lifters( when I first started) and thinking good on em
What M would you be in the DFPFed?

Thanks Andy. The enthusiasm ran out today. Weather's awful up here and I just couldn't face the ice box that is the garage. Maybe tomorrow...

I started training on Saturday evening with all good intentions, but before I had finished my warm up my hands went numb, so cold was the bar. Also a high risk of injury training in the extreme cold. Might not be able to train again until Thursday. I have eye injections on Tuesday morning and the anaesthetic normally leaves me a bit drowsy for a day or two. There will be better days.
