Bench
Bar for 10
40 for 8
60 for 6
80 for 4
100 for 2
120 for 1
130 for 1
135 for 1

Dumbbell Arm Curls
20s for 10 x 5 sets

Finish

I planned to do bench sets with 110, but as I unracked for the first set my body screamed that I didn't have enough energy. So I listened and managed to fit in some curls instead. I also played with my newly acquired triceps bar, but, just as cable pressdowns hurt the forearm, so did skull crushers, even with just the bar (10Kg). So it goes into storage for now.

Pleased with the 135. If I can maintain that over the next six weeks I'll be happier still.

A little later than normal, for various reasons including tardiness.

Bench
Bar for 10
40 for 8
60 for 6
80 for 4
100 for 2
110 for 1
120 for 1
130 for 1. Easy, so
140 for 1, where did that come from?
130 for 1, should have been 2 but the first was a grinder
120 for 3
110 for 4
100 for 5
Finish.

I was in no mood/shape for the 5 sets of 8 that the programme suggested, but during the maintenance season a programme is just a guide. I decided to go heavy instead and was rewarded with a 140 that I wasn't anticipating at the beginning. But the 130 went up so effortlessly I had to give it a go. Very pleased with where I am right now.

I should have done curls as well, but ran out of time and energy. Plenty time to fit them in during the week.

Not many words needed today, but I worked hard enough for all that.

Seated Rows
70 for 10 x 12 sets (3 sets with each grip)

YTWLs
Band work for 20 x 3 sets with each of the 5 movements

Dumbbell Arm Curls
20s for 10 x 3 sets

Finish

Boring but essential.

I only trained bench once last week, and probably won't train at all next week, so it was important that I got a session in today.

Bench

Bar for 10
40 for 8
60 for 6
80 for 4
100 for 2
120 for 1
140 for 1 - just
130 for 1
120 for 3
110 for 4
100 for 5

Dumbbell Arm Curls

20s for 10 x 5 sets

Finish

Energy levels were good at the start but dropped after the 140. I was tempted to stop, but increased the rests and kept going. Glad I did, not a bad maintenance session when all's said and done. Slightly frustrated that I can't get 130 for 2 after doing 140. But that will come. If I can maintain 140 over the next couple of months I'll be well set to build strength levels over the winter.

Nothing too strenuous today, but then balancing work doesn't always have to be. It just has to be done. I wasn't up for heavy rows to start, so today's session was done in reverse order.

YTWLs

Band work for 20 x 3 sets on the four four, and 20 x 5 sets on the Ls, which closely correspond to shoulder horn work

Lateral Plate Raises

Sides - 2.5 for 20 x 3 sets
Fronts - 2.5 for 20 x 3 sets

Facepulls

30 for 10 x 5 sets

Seated Rows

70 for 15 x 3 sets

Finish, now off for a walk.

After two weeks off trying to be a golfer, and with some trepidation, back to what I am comparatively better at.

Bench
Bar for 10
40 for 8
60 for 6
80 for 4
100 for 2
120 for 1
130 for 1
120 for 2
110 for 3
100 for 4
90 for 5
80 for 6
70 for 7
60 for 8
Finish

The 130 wasn't quite on my limit, but close enough to discourage me from going any higher.

No curls today. Instead, I mucked out the sheep and probably worked the arms even more. Now I have a month to get myself into some sort of shape for the Scottish Bench Championships, although the real targets are the British events early next year with, hopefully, a good winter training phase behind me and no Lithuanian flu.

I work at a country club. Lawyers, rich people are in a daze crushing balls on the driving range. The want you to keep the den caddy’s full but won’t stop swingin the drivers. This makes me like the sport of golf less. What really ticks them off if they don’t strap their clubs on the golf cart and they leave and their clubs blast off the ground! I am good at looking concerned!

Golf can be very elitist and off putting. In the Outer Hebrides it's certainly not. Cheap memberships, all welcome, including ladies and juniors, no dress code, and the members even help with course maintenance. It's a sport here, not a social networking opportunity or a rich man's playground. Happy

A hectic day, but I managed to fit in some lifting. Bench only, no time for anything else, but there will be plenty of dark days when I can catch up. Keeping my bench ticking over is the only training objective at this time of year.

Bench
Bar for 10
40 for 8
60 for 6
80 for 4
100 for 2
120 for 1
132.5 for 1 - just
122.5 for 2 - make that a 'just'as well
112.5 for 3
102.5 for 5
Finish.

Everything felt heavy in the hand today, even the 40s and 60s, so I was pleased to hit all my numbers. I'll be doing it again on Saturday morning, with company. And hopefully more oomph.

Recent Training

Saturday

Bench
Usual warm up to 100 for 2
120 for 1
130 for 1
135 for 1 (some daftie touched the bar)
135 for 1 (so I did it again - right on my limit)
100 for 8
Finish

Today

Bench
Normal warm up to 100 for 2
120 for 1
130 for 1
Finish.

The forearm gave me more pain today than in recent weeks, even wrapped tight, so a planned escapade in a shirt had to be cancelled.

My coaching proved very effective though... Happy

I actually felt more energised than usual today, but that was cancelled out by the nerve pain in the arm.

Bench
Normal warm up to 100 for 2
120 for 1 - hard
130 for 1 - easy
135 - fail
120 for 2
110 for 3
100 for 4
90 for 5

Dumbbell Arm Curls
20s for 8 x 5 sets

Finish.

Could have done more reps strength-wise, but when the arm is like this it's the reps that really hurt. I tried 135 because 130 felt so easy, but it wouldn't go. Three weeks training before the Scottish Bench. A lot of work to be done and I need to start hitting the supplements again.

Plenty energy again today. People knock supplements, but since I started taking them again three days ago I can definitely feel the difference.

A balancing session while listening to the golf.

Seated Row
70 for 10 x 12 sets (3 sets with each grip)

Lat Pulldown
50 for 10 x 5 sets

Facepulls
30 for 10 x 5 sets

Waistpulls
Band for 20 x 3 sets

Shoulder Horn
7.5s for 10 x 5 sets

Side Lateral Raises
7.5s for 10 x 3 sets

Front Lateral Raises
7.5s for 10 x 3 sets

Dumbbell Arm Curls
12.5s for 20 x 3 sets

Finish.

Nice session, need to do more of this. Didn't do YWTLs, because facepulls, waistpulls and shoulder horn pretty much do the same thing. Good to have the shoulder horn back. Bench tomorrow. Happy

Trying to keep things going during the golf season. Scottish Bench only three weeks away...

Bench

Normal warm up to 100 for 2
120 for 1
135 for 1
125 for 1 (wanted more, but it was harder than the 135!!)
120 for 2
115 for 3
110 for 4
105 for 5
100 for 6
Finish

Took ages. Arm hurt throughout, and I used the floss band from 80 onwards, but it got done. I was reflecting that, although 135 is pretty pathetic, it's only 10 kilos shy of where I was at my best in the comeback, before the trip to Pilsen and the golf season got in the way. I ain't going to pull up any trees at this year's Scottish, but hopefully I can bulk up a bit from mid September onwards and be in good shape next January. That's the plan anyway. Everyone needs a plan. But the plan depends on a healthy arm. Difficult to put on muscle if you can't get the reps in...

I never complain about the heat, because we don't get nearly enough of it up here, but it was uncomfortably hot weather for training in. The clear corrugated panels in the roof have a greenhouse effect on sunny days, which is great on sunny winter days but not so great on days like today.

Bench
Normal warm up to 100 for 2
120 for 1
135 - fail
120 for 2
115 for 3
110 for 4
105 for 5
100 for 6
Finish

I had plans for arm curls and shoulder horn work, but they will have to wait. No energy left after bench, and lots still to do before the day is out. The Scottish Bench is worryingly close, I think I need to focus on just winning the title and not worrying about what I lift to do so.

Everything but the failed 135 was done without a floss band. Not because the arm didn't hurt, but because I need to get used to the pain.
