Cheers Neil, been doing a lot of work on yoke and improving core and its paying off.
There was a severe lack of practice going into the 105's combined with some back issues discovered by my physio made for a dismal performance.

Clans of Scotland Strongest Man
Left for the journey about 7.40 and arrived about 11.40, epic drive but quite enjoyable.

1st event Max Axle
Probably my worst event even more so with the shoulder issues I've had. You picked your weights and continued until you failed in rounds. Opened at an easy 90kg, stumbled a bit on the grass but was an easy press. Then went 100,105 both comfortable. Attempted 110 but missed it on lockout, tried again but felt shoulder get twingey from the clean so left it there. Not sure where I placed but it wasn't last. Bonus!

125 Farmers 40m turn at 20.
Usually a good event for me. Easy pickup but tried to go too fast, combined with the damp uneven grass smashed my knees into the plates and dropped the feckers. Picked them up and finished in a decent time of 35 something, round about 4th or 5th I think.??

Silver Dollar deadlift
This was the same set up as ssm u105 so I knew what to expect. My plan was to try and pb at 315. Picked opener at 260 and felt like nothing, so did some more. Didn't just beat my pb, absolutely smashed it!
260,280,300,320,340,360 failed 370
Somewhere around 5th.

Had a wee much needed break, was in two minds about pulling out because my back was destroyed after the deadlift but found a dose of 'man the f**k up' in my kit bag

Shield Carry 150kg 40m
Didn't know what to expect from this the shield looked quite sharp and my last attempt at a carrt in a comp did not end well. Saw a few guys set some good times so decided to just go for it. Turns out it was a nice piece of kit to use.Finished the course 21.5 seconds about 4th place.

Last event stones Arnolds style.
Quite a few guys went out and got a few reps with the 130, and the two closest to me get 3 at 150 so knew I had to do 150. First went up ok, 2nd had to have a couple of tries with, 3rd was close but lower back gave up so I took a rep with the 130.
Don't know where I finished in that event.

So 6th overall, which I am pretty happy with. Did better than expected in what was an open comp. only really let down by my poor pressing again and probably a bit too much haste on the farmers. Absolutely buzzing with the 4x bodyweight deadlift. Although I will probably regret it in the morning.

It was bloody awkward trying to get balance to press it. I really wanted to split jerk the 110 and go for pb's but it was too slippy and uneven.

cheers Sam.

Sunday 18th August.
Today myself, Leggiez, Tun and a few others did a 400kg 2 man deadlift at the top of a local hill called Bennachie (518m). So we carried 420kg and a bar to the top. So today consisted of carrying a 25kg plate plus.a variety of farmers wall with 2x50kg plates, some 70kg barbell walks and some carrying of an extra 20 & 25 plate. This was all in aid of Friends of Turriff Hospital, a local charity and we raised about £1500 altogether. A huge effort from everyone involved and one of the hardest things I've ever done!!

Monday 19/8/13

Wasn't sure how this would go today after yesterdays antics.

Smolov week 1 session 1 (beltless)
bar x10
70x8
120x6
177.5 6x2 easy peasy

fronties
70x8
110x6
140x2 stopped there, felt left quad tightening up

log
85 6x2

cgbp
70x8
100x5
110 3x3

Done. Better than expected, everything held up ok. Back is still a bit tender from the last comp but squatting felt good. Roll on the rest of the week and we'll see how I cope with squatting 3 times a week.
