Left home at 6.30 for the 3 hour drive down to Glasgow, picking up Scotty and Leggiez on the way. Was a little concerned about weight, I was 90.4kg this morning with no breakfast. Arrived about 9.35 and just scraped in at 89.9kg. Did a few deadlifts for warm up and stretching and got massive butterflies in the stomach! 1st Event Max deadlift rising bar. Started at 200 easy lift, 220,240 were pretty much the same, 260 was a bit harder but got it ok. 270 up next, got strapped in and ready. Started the pull and came up but then something in lower back went wrong, tried to pull through it but couldn't and dropped the bar pretty quickly and lost balance. Joint 5th 260kg. 2nd event Overhead Medley. WAS NOT LOOKING FORWARD TO THIS. I have never pressed a 53kg circus dumbell before today. Picked it up to the shoulder and took a couple of attempts to balance it. Pressed the thing, it was a little scrappy but went up. Next was 100kg axle, this felt very light and I pressed it easy. 105kg log next, cleaned it ok but just could not press it. It felt very heavy! 7th place, not great. 2 in 32.14 seconds 3rd Event Car Deadlift Hold Now this I was looking forward to and was fully expecting to do well. Picked it up fine and just locked it out. It felt light compared to what I've been doing and have to admit I did a little bit of showboating Chuffed to bits with my first event win and by a whole 13 seconds. 1st Place Wahey. 46.7 seconds 4th Event 270kg Yoke 3x10m Felt ok going into this, just picked it up and went with it. First 10m was fine if not the fastest, 2nd was much better, 3rd not so good. Had a problem with my left knee half way and managed to finish it before it gave out on the line and I ended up on the floor. 5th place 29.22 seconds 5th Event Medleey 80kg sandbag, 90kg sandbag, 100kg barrel, 150ish duck walk. all 20m Watched a few people not finish this, which turned out to be quite a brutal medley. First sandbag felt easy, fumbled the second one abit and lost time. Barrel was ok, I've been practising this a lot. Duck walk was not nice as usual, managed to smash my ankles well (which was nice), had to put it down once because my legs wanted to stop. Finished in a decent time. 4th place 85.16 seconds 5th and last event 120kg Stone over yoke wasn't sure how this was going to go, I struggled to get 3 last weekend after a few yoke runs. Shouldn't have worried really, learnt from previous mistakes and used a lot less tacky. 6 Reps in 70.05 seconds. Finished 4th place overall, 6.5 points off 3rd place. Really pleased with another consistent performance. A couple of small mistakes and still need to improve the yoke and overhead but I'm getting there. Overall one of the best competitions I've done and all credit to Stuart Yule and Youngy for organising it. All being well I'll be back next year, stronger, faster and pushing for top 3. | ||

Log felt terrible, the line was all wrong and aggravated my shoulder. | ||

Had an experiment in mixing protein shakes tonight, big success. Banana BSN True Mass and chocolate Dymatize elite Gourmet mixed together make a very tasty shake Happy with that. The squats are really coming along, on course for 250 in the next few months. deadlift felt heavy after the squats but I expected that. Axle flet really good for once and I'm sure 110+ is there a bit fresher. | ||

Today Barrel Carry 73kgx30m turn at 15 100kgx30m turn at 15 125x15m 1st pick up was crap and took a couple of attempts to get the position right 125x15m, legs buggered. Yoke, Farmers medley 200x12, 95x15 240x12, 105x15 280x12, 115x15 Arm over Arm 95x20m? ish. 150x10m lost grip 130x some distance? 120x15?m Felt quite lacklustre and sluggish today. The barrel carry was very hard and really took a lot out. Arm over arm was very hard going on grass and 150 felt like trying to pull a mountain. Need to get my head out my arse! | ||

Wednesday Deadlifts DOH Raw 50x10 100x8 150x6 200x3 DOH, Belt 220x3 Mixed Grip 240x1 Straps 240x1 Felt really hard 210x12 wanted to get some reps in, could have easy got 15 but got bored Speed Deads 190x3 x3 Thick handle dumbell rows 50x6 x3 Good mornings 3 sets of 8 Band face pulls and band pull aparts for shoulder rehab Not too bad although the 240 deadlifts felt far heavier than it should have done. Felt good to get some reps in for a change and happy I could have got an easy 15 if I could be bothered. Definitely need to get back on the 531 program after next Sunday. | ||

Deadlifts are a different story though, form feels all wrong but I'm sure they will come back in time for next Sundays Euro Qualifier. | ||
