Axle is a pressing event. You could potentially have a big presser scoring 0 reps because they can't get the axle up to their chest, although you could argue that's what makes strongman interesting Happy

An interesting line of argument, much of a piece with your "deadlift is not a grip event" one. Surely axle is a cleaning and pressing event - otherwise you'd do it from the rack!

I was just trying to generate discussion really. Getting the axle up to the chest is, of course, all part of the event.

Regarding the dead lift, I think it should PRIMARILY be a test of back strength (there are other ways of testing grip), but I have NO problem at all with straps being disallowed.

When guys clean from just above the belt (legitimate), in some cases the belt is probably still helping to create a "shelf".

Some guys use their belt to aid log cleans.

Axle is a pressing event. You could potentially have a big presser scoring 0 reps because they can't get the axle up to their chest, although you could argue that's what makes strongman interesting Happy

I'd like to see DB for max in WSM.

I think it's OK.

I've thought belt cleans are cool ever since I first saw that technique performed by Magnus Samuelsson in his heat of WSM 1997 Happy

That's what belts are for! Grin
