As for the back injuy, if you feel that resting iot has done f**k all, from my experience i've always decided to try and train through it and see if that helps, sometimes the pain is in your head especially if rest isn't doing anything.

In short, you're already injured, rest isn't working, try lifting haha

Thanks mate, glad to have posted a total to build from.

I've tried all approaches over last 3 months, rest, rehab, training through, training around etc. I tried to train through it but ended up in agony even deadlifting 100kg.

Off to GPs this afternoon to try and get some diclofenac to help with local inflammation, but need to see if I can get some imaging done to check spine and discs - extremely optimistic unless I stump up ~£500 for private MRI.

Osteopaths think it's muscular, physios and sports therapists think it's disc. I've been fortunate enough to speak to 3 physios, 4 osteopaths and 2 sports therapists about it and had several assessments and sessions (benefits of working with them Grin)

Will see how it goes

I've had 3x 10 day rests from deadlift or proper squats over the last 2 months.

It's notably unhappy today.

haha get it sorted mate, last thing you want is to be a bench specialist, you'll become great, but i think it'll be rather tedious!

Hope it all works out and good luck for the English Bench on the weekend, i think 210kg will be a good number to aim for!

haha cheers mate!

Would like 210, and it'd be double body weight, which would be nice! All being well will aim for 200 as second and 210 as third lift if I feel up to it on the day. Probably open ether 185 or 190.

Injury update.

Back's sore. I seem to have multiple 'bits' wrong, but no major 'bit' wrong. Pulled / strained serratius posteria interia, and right erector this time.

GP wasn't particularly helpful, as is often the case, so looking like I need to take a couple of months of squat and deads to let this s**t heal, as it's been 12 weeks and more optimistic approaches have failed. I'm at the point where I haven't been able to train heavy or often enough so my strength is down anyway on these two, so no point trying to push through as I don't want this to become a more substantial injury, as I suspect things are compensating for job they aren't meant to be doing.

On the plus side, if there is one, I'm going to be very much focussing on bench and equipped bench with a view to being rather good at by next year, and hope to be back squatting heavy and deadlifting (at all) later this year.

I will be adding in light squats as and when my back's ready - but for now it'll have to be some leg extensions, ham curls, etc to keep the atrophy at bay.

Very disappointing, but at least I can still press on with the lift I'm probably best at, (pun intended).

English Bench Championships

Weigh cut story, decided to hurt do a short water cut after a few days hitting the food.

Friday am 107.5, 14L water
Saturday am 106.0, 8L water
Sunday am 105.00 on home scales...off to comp.....

Weighed in at 104.1kg. Plenty of food and drink and milling about then time to warm up

Raw
60*8
100*4
140*2
Shirt on (50 super katana - looser shirt)
170*1 35mm board

Comp:
185 3 whites
195 3 whites
200 3 whites

glad to hit 200, not much left in the tank. Grip can come a finger wider, but notable how much looser my shirt is than many of the big lifters, but today was about building experience and confidence so time to move on to lockout work and trying to get tighter shirt to work. Got some good tips today too.

Only 105 senior equipped lifter, so a nice gold medal for my efforts.

Onwards. .

Good work, 200 bench is always good. I think it would have killed me to do another comp that quick.

Thanks mate, happy to get to a number beginning with a 2 in comp. Should be plenty more to come in the next few months all being well.

I think making weight again in a week hurt more than the lifting tbh. Grin
