I am in the process of acquiring kit for an Army strongman club and need to keep costs to a minimum, hence asking for a second hand log.

If I cant get a second hand one, then I will look to buy a reasonably priced new one

strength shops steel one is in there weekly specials (they run Thur to Thur), down to £150, not sure if that was new today or runs out today so you may need to be quick
