My wife took me on a tour to show me what shes moved to the beds ...mainly netted. laods of radish and beetroot. garlic is not netted and growing very well. Big bed od sprouts and no dig ready for beans and peas. She planted some caulies this afternoon and broccoli... We have multiple buckets inbetween the greenhouse/ beds with potatoes in... letuce outside as well and carrots in buckets. and other stuff Ive forgotten already...
we are getting through loads of compost...will be a while before we have our own of use.
Yea, its going alright. we have low expectations which helps.

Just a note - parsnips HATE being transplanted. You can chit them - seeds on tissue put into tupperware until there's a tiny green stalk coming out, then pop that under a cm or so of compost.

If you have the room and access to pallets...
I put 3 pallets together upstanding in a square in a C shape...some 2by2 at the front to create slots which I cut and slided scaffold boards into. I did the as a 3 bay system poached from this video:
of course, years ago, my granddad just had a compost pile at the back of the garden
just be sure to have the compost away from the house unless you want rodents in your loft...

Thanks mate, I've got the ideal spot at the back of my garden.
Have you seen the governments new initiative, offering lump sums for farmers to quit farming or retire early.

if you were one of those misled unfortunates, you might just think the governments want food shortages...But of course, we all know the governments are only looking out for our best interests, arnt they? ops, almost blanked out the past 2 years, must be the sun.

we had some radish and rocket tonight. turns out, we all like radish...perhaps i do because it was free oh, and we planted the sunflower seeds yesterday...and the melons are shooting....oh and forgot to say, we are having a pumpkin patch as well. Im thinking it will be nice for Halloween and the seeds will be of value (nutritional and calorific).

Did you plant the sunflowers in the greenhouse to start with, or directly outdoors? My indoor ones have 100% germination rate, and outdoor 2 weeks later have 0% germination rate. Pretty sure it was too cold for them outside.
How much poop you putting in the pumpkin patch? Which variety? I would love to grow some here in the UK, but not got the space for them.
I have started pulling out radishes and eating them with a bit of dirt still on them - zero washing needed!

This is how covid started.

well, i think we do this the same...we started our sunflower seeds off indoors and then transfered to the greenhouse when I had completed it. They were then planted outdoors in 24 spaces.
The pumpkins we hope to plant will be the common orange ones. I will keep you posted as my wife is doing all the science behind the timings etc and jornalising everything...typical scientist.

Cooking oil shortage...(apparently) its all the evil Russians of course.
Regardless, to those who have been paying attention, if you havent already put plans in place to supplement your mid-long term food supply. The hour is already late.

Hey, just thought...unlike the brainwashed cults- extinction rebellion as example, i like to offer solutions...
So how about, even with little space you can still grow strawberries...from hanging baskets!
we have some planted in the fruit patch and in a planter but intend to have hanging baskets in addition.

we have planted our corn in front of the greenhouse in the hottest side...we feel it will be the best place and afford some incidentally shade to the greenhouse which gets mega hot.
Been eating letuace, red letuace, radish and rocket. Next year we will be sure to plant kale, carrots and spinich to harvest for this time next year.
A Lesson learned.
