I've had a few years out of doing powerlifting as I thought the entry fees etc took the piss but found out they have a student rate so might aim for the deadlift singles mid Feb. Can anyone recommended a decent deadlift specialisation routine, bearing in mind I don't have enhanced recovery?

Coan.

But dont be too ambitious. It's a brute of a routine even if you are fairly conservative.

I did coan when from a sloppy 215 to a sloppy 235 Really enjoyed it and should be doing it again really

Something I tried which was not a routine as such...I waved 3 light weeks and one heavy week, I would go by feel and the light weeks I would pick a weight and go for a rep pb, or drop percentage slightly and try a 2 set rep pb.

I was stuck for a long time and could not get more than a rep at 280 (best ever done was the 286 record)and managed a double with 280kg after a short wave doing this think it went wk 1: 2x6x250, wk2: 2x10x220, wk 3: 9x240, then new pb wk 4: 280x2.

There was no plan I went by feel each deadlift workout would come in and decide if going for one or two sets and if so what weight I thought I could get away with without missing any reps, think the conditioning in the high reps was the key as I killed myself for three weeks with reps sets then final week the heavy double was actually pretty easy. Good for a change I'd say and gave me a good result.

Another vote for the Coan if your focus is deadlift. Just dont ask too much, if you try that you may gain less. Some who have put in a modest figure have gained more than those who based it on a bigger gain.

Coan works but I think Adam bishops routine looks good.

Olly's routine was better for me than Coan's. I preferred the emphasis on higher percentages and maxing on a different type of deadlift per week.

Yet another vote for Coan from me, I just finished it and it added 20kg to my Deadlift.

I would echo what others have said though and say, be conservative with it as I initially put in a projected increase of 20kg and had to re-calculate after 4 weeks as it was just too much. I re-calculated all the weights for a 10kg increase and still came away with the 20kgs.

Coan, but be honest about your current max, and go for a small increase. Or, don't be so f**king greedy, you deadlift beast! Grin

Not such a bad idea here.

I was thinking of doing a similar thing myself when I do coan again, just put in ~20kgs less than current max and current max. Just to sort of solidify current position and have a mini break whilst getting in some decent work. Or I might out in 300... and fail... immediately Grin
