I already eat a lot of mackerel and was looking into rump steak for convenience but it hasn’t got enough fat and I need 160-180g of fat a day. same with pork chops. I will look into the options mentioned as iv never heard of half of them. cheers

hermit Member 3904, 988 posts | Mince is probably the cheapest fatty cut of meat If you have a look round some of the independent asian butchers, you can usually get mutton mince for as little as £4/kg it is very fatty, when I cook with it I never add oil and still its swimming in grease. But I like that. T Supermarket mince, especially the cheaper kind is sort of mystery meat that comes from far away. Usually Ireland. The local butchers get all there stuff from shropshire or wales. This mince is usually made by shaving meat of the ribs, the greasiest part of a sheep. In general mutton is a lot fattier that beef, and in my opinion tastes a lot better. But it is not particularly cheap when compared to the big economy pieces of beef you get. Loads cheaper than lamb though. Have you tried hearts? Lamb hearts are around £2/kg and cook quickly. Beef hearts are much larger and tougher, and have lots of fat stuck to them. Cant remember how much they are but they are both cheap and nice if you cook them right.

hermit Member 3904, 988 posts | I know you said you were in Birmingham, I know they do mutton mince for £3.80/kg on Coventry road. Also random cuts of British Beef on the bone for £5/kg. Or Boneless imported Polish Beef for £6/kg (which is actually extremely lean)

Added bonus of tasting great when its cold so easy to eat on the go.
