I hit a pb today with a chest infection

Yet another injury thread from me, any tips would be appreciated saves talking to docs.

Every now and then when benching I get shooting pain in my right wrist. The slightest pressure on my hand pressing/pushing wise sends shooting pain through my wrist. Normally i finish the session, wake up the next day and it's gone again. Some sessions I get it, some I don't. I thought it may be down to poor form on the bench and bending my hand back to much holding the bar so not having the weight sit on my palm properly so it goes through to my forearm.
I've since took extra care with my hand positioning when benching but I still get it sometimes.

Then yesterday, having not trained for 11 days. I got up off the settee and pushed up only hand and the pain shot back like I get training. It was killing all night so just got on with it and thought it'll be gone by morning so didn't worry too much. Then I got out of bed this morning and it's still there, it's not there when I do anything else with my hand such as squeeze something, and I keep forgetting about it until I push on something then get that shooting pain again.
Any ideas before I do it any worse damage?
Sorry for the long post, thanks in advance

Wrist wraps have helped me with wrist pain in the past.

do you grip the bar as hard as you can on bench? and do you try to bend the bar as you bench?

Not really I guess no. I think I just hold it more just to support it from going anywhere

Hey sorry to hear about your wrist pain,I'm no expert but I'd say use wrist wraps that's what I did also I take msm glusomine chondritne....might have to check spelling lol its basically joint care. If those don't help you may want to check you don't have a stress fracture...obviously that's worst case.also it maybe worth swapping exercises that cause less pain like dumbel presses until the pain is totally gone, bench wise your right with bar on the palm thing I used to hold the bar very high bending my hand back and I had a lot of pain took a long time to go away, cues wrist under palm ,elbow under wrist, all in line, and white knuckle the bar ..i may have repeated whats already been said hope this helps good luck :-)

Thanks john, yeh since things comment I've been reading a bit about this white knuckle and squeezing the bar more, I'll start doing it when I get back in the gym. Maybe it'll get me a mini pb too lol!

Its a really good cue as when you squeeze the bar it engages your forearms and so on .also keeps your wrist safer some will go down the thumb less route personally I don't think that's very safe to say the least.....also shoulder blades in your back pocket is a good cue also bending the bar, pulling the bar apart are all great tips to engage late and triceps let us know has you get on and what pb you get :-) :-) :-)

How do you sit the bar in your hand? Do you let your hand sit back (like palming a door open), or do you have your hand in a way that a ruler could run flush with the back of your hand all the way down your forearm?

Learning to do the latter not only improved my bench, but stopped the most horrific pain in my left wrist (I injured it on a rock falling head over tit down a hill).

Yeh I think I do sit it back most of the time, closer to my fingers than my wrist. Thanks for the advice, I'll be trying it tomorrow Happy

Done a bit of bench yesterday, only light as I haven't trained it for about a month and even the light sets felt heavy lol. Didn't get any pain so all good but will see how it goes when it's heavy again

Doing some axle power cleans the other day and my wrists really bad again, worst it's ever been tbh, any suggestions of things I can do that doesn't impact the wrist at all?
Other than squatting obviously

Well been told I have tenosynovitus (excuse my spelling). On NSAIDs, been told not to do nothing with it for 4 weeks.

Also been told I be very careful from now on, as it can turn into a chronic injury that will f**k me up for the rest of my life. f**king great!
