Some events suit the tall guys, some the short guys. Nowadays, you have to be super strong to overcome any disadvantege whilst still making the best of any advantage. I'm actually in agreeance with you, I dont think its directly a height thing, just indirectly. its more of a weight thing IMO...if you're 6ft 6" plus and "stacked" its unlikely you're going to be anything under 170

Member 766, 113 posts | Post Edited: 23.09.2011 @ 16:00 PM by JayMcLaughlin While we are on the subject of big v small, there are some more subtle advantages at play.If we look at this photo of Poundstone, we can see how far apart the handles. http://a6.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-snc7/s720x720/318701... I'm sure if these were farmers Poundstone would position the farmers allowing his arms to hang at more vertical angle. So the point being, great for the bulk and wingspan of Shaw, less good for the smaller strongman. We dont expect all guys to use the same height yoke, so time for adjustable width on frame carrys, side handled deadlifts/holds?

Average height was 6'4 and a half this year then

Still got a little bit of strength Member 400, 22047 posts | martinb said: also remember one medly that had about 4 elements, inluding a hummer push? definately events where being 200+ would be prohibitave and not advantagous! Last event of 1997, and it had 3 elements. 200 duck walk, 1 flip of tyre, Hummer push. Samuelsson won it. Half of Sugden could complete that!!

Thing thinks he can decide what goes here. He cant Member 354, 1452 posts | Post Edited: 23.09.2011 @ 17:01 PM by Stetec The clue is in the title "Worlds Strongest Man" not Worlds Fittest Man. So the weights need to be heavy enough to suit the title. So as a by product the biggest men will generally be the strongest at lifting the heavier weights rather than winning a rep fest with lighter weights which wouldn't warrant the title of the event. With regards height, the taller the man, the more muscle his frame can support, hence he'll generally be stronger. More muscle generally equals more strength aside from the odd isolated case or genetic freak. So it may well become the taller men are the strongest. because they generally are. And yes the equipment should be adjustable to suit the athlete, you wouldn't ask Ryan Giggs to wear Wayne Rooneys boots and play at his best, if you get my meaning. It can't be fair to ask a guy who's 5 foot 9 to put a big concrete stone on a platform thats 5 foot 11 as asking a guy who's 6 foot 8 to do the same. For the same reason I hide my biscuit stash on top of the cupboards so the kids can't get them!

Still got a little bit of strength Member 400, 22047 posts | You think stone platform heights should be adjusted for each competitor??? I don't. Some events suit taller guys. Some events (not so many) suit shorter guys. That's just the way it is.

Thing thinks he can decide what goes here. He cant Member 354, 1452 posts | Yeah I think so. Just my view, doubt most will agree. But yeah, I suppose it would be akward having everything adjustable, but stones in particular and frames that bring the arms out like a kid playing aeroplanes is a bit of an unfair handicap tbh.

Uk limbo dancing champion Member 2666, 6551 posts SQ 202, BP 170, DL 255627.0 kgs @ 88kgs UnEq | ok the tall guys have an advantage on some things but wouldnt it be harder to deadlift if your taller? not only do they reach down further but have to pull it higher, so if u had adjustable stone platforms the deadlift bar should be adjusted aswell (say to the knee for example). if anything bodyweight is a bigger factor to advantages/disadvantages, especially in any pushing or pulling events. im not agreeing changes should happen i think its great how it is and in general strongman athletes know their weaknesses n either improve them or avoid the events. if were strictly talking about the WSM then remember its the WSM not the worlds strongest man lb for lb, or for that height catergory.
