Hard work. Put it on too far and I get 5kg out of it, don't put it on far enough and I can't get anywhere near touching. Put it somewhere in the middle and I can get lighter touches but not enough support to finish the lifts etc etc...

Do you have a narrow grip? I struggle as well but when I widen my grip I could get it to touch

Full legal width. I've been training at Olympic and I've got a feeling that the rings are olympic length apart instead of powerlifting spec, which means I've been training with wider than legal width, so I've been having problems recently when practicing on proper power bars

FINALLY got home as a British Champion!

Been ill all week, weighed in at 4kg too light at 78kg blah blah on to the lifting.

Started feeling a lot better during warmup, worked up to 205kg then took my opening squat of 225kg. Sank it and finished the lift really nicely, and then got ready for my 2nd lift of 235kg. It was another good lift but a bit more difficult than I'm used to for this weight.

My 3rd attempt was 245kg, but it just wouldn't go up on the day, which was a shame as I had no problem with this weight a couple of weeks ago.


Was a bit worried before bench press because of the shirt problems i'd been having in the last couple of weeks, but I warmed to 100kg then put the shirt on in the same position as I had it last session, where 140kg was all but impossible to get a touch with!

Put 120 on the bar and did a rep to a 2 board, then another to a 1 board which touched surprisingly easy! The shirt was probably a bit looser than it has been before due to losing weight, so at least I wouldn't have to take a risky opener just to get a decent touch. Then took 140kg in warmup (which would be my opening weight) and got an easy touch with it and an easy enough press. I was feeling a lot better about bench now, I just had to go out and do the same again, which I did.

My 2nd lift was 145kg which was straight forward again, and my last was 150kg which was an easy enough press but I got 3 reds for touching too low.

After squat and bench I was probably 5-10kg behind the leader, but I was happy enough with that as I knew I'd probably out pull him by 60kg...

Warmed up to 230k, and then took my 285kg for my opener which was nice and easy.

My 2nd lift was a competition pb of 302.5kg which was again easy, but I just didn't have it in me to finish off my 3rd lift which stalled just passed my knees. It would have been a new British record, 312.5kg.

Totalled 682.5kg and won my first British Championship, and can't wait to get back into training for whatever is next now!

312.5 will have to wait for a stronger day and better comp preparation, or a better deadlift suit when I pick up a fusion off andy bolton. I know it won't really help my lockout, but if I get mega fast off the floor maybe it'll fly through my sticking point. My squat suit really is too loose now...
