On at some point in next hour channel two
dr_hazbun
It got like 2 seconds coverage and the guy who benched 180 was timed out thus nullifying his lift Unhappy

I guess it's more than what able bodied athletes get in terms of coverage.

Got a mate from the gym lifting there on Sunday incidentally, some of the weights these small guys are pushing with no arch/leg drive is just ridiculous!

The mens 56kg was won today with 202.5kg - 10kg more than the winner at the World Bench with no shirt and legs up.

Was that legs up, or no legs? Obviously the amputees are in a very different weight category to what they'd be with legs...

I'm not taking anything away from their lifts, don't get me wrong.

The 56kg guy - Sherif Othman, was not an amputee (although I think the lifters bodyweight is adjusted if they are an amputee to take account of their weight advantage)

On a more negative note, three of the four positives so far at the Paralympics have involved powerlifting

Great that the cheats are being caught. Bummer that the words 'positives' (as in drug tests), 'powerlifting' and 'paralympics' appear in the same sentence. That can't help powerlifting's path to being an olympic sport.

On Rick's point, I lifted against guys with withered legs who were the same weight as me, but whose upper bodies were significantly bigger than mine - maybe in the order of 25% - 50%. But, that said, a 200+ raw bench with no leg drive at 56 Kilos is just mindblowingly impressive. Not just no leg drive - but no arch! The technique you have to use destroys the shoulders, btw.

Tony Stevens was a bit like this when he was at his best - 100kg lifter, with an upper body more like a lifter of 125kg or bigger and tiny little legs. He could, however, still squat over 385kg.
